Station Launcher Goes into Beta

The much hyped station launcher is now in beta. You can download it from link below.

Station Launcher :: Integrated Chat, Games and Friends

The benefits of using the station launcher (from the site)

Quote:
FEATURE LIST:
Launching Station Games - One place for all your games

* Launch all Station games on your PC from one location!
* A unified interface eliminates separate logins between all your Station games.
* Delete all those game shortcuts on your desktop and just use Station Launcher instead.

Easy, Behind-the-Scenes Updating - Ready to Go Anytime

* Auto Updating keeps all games up to date and ready to play on a moment's notice. While you are logged-in to Station Launcher, all your games will be regularly checked for game updates. If updates are detected, they will be automatically "background" downloaded.
* Station Launcher allows you to use your computer or play in any application and keep your games updated at the same time!
* When you launch a game, any downloaded game updates waiting on your computer will be ready for you to enjoy.
* You can manage download settings for each game through Station Launcher preferences.

Connect with Friends using Station Friends

* All SOE Friends lists on one application!
* Find your friends fast and stay connected even while they are in-game!
* Keep the names of all your different game characters (Alts) private, while allowing friends to see that you are online.
* See what SOE games your friends are playing when you are online.
* Send and receive tells outside the games... anytime!
* Connect with Legacy Friends - Who are all these people on my friends list? Well, they're your friends from other games and servers. Forgot their names? Look up old friends and guilds with EQPlayers.com, EQ2Players.com, VanguardPlayers.com or PlanetSidePlayers.com

Purchase Station Games, Updates and Items

* Station Launcher gives you quick and easy access to purchasing and downloading a variety of content - games, subscriptions, trial programs, expansions, adventure packs, card packs, Station Players web services, and more.
* Take advantage of pre-loading your favorite Station games.
* Stay current on the latest Station news, Dev chats and upcoming games.
* Subscribe. Even during a game trial, you can click "Subscribe" to get the full game and subscription. The process gives you the opportunity to pick the game package you want, the subscription plan you want, and any additional content you desire... all with one order.
Sounds great but so far it does not work for me, I have made a post here on the official station launcher forums.

Basically, it's a copy of Steam?

Still, with the number of MMO's they have, a good idea.

While Steam itself didn't have that great of a launch a few years ago, lately I'd say it works out very nicely. Hope SoE can do as good.

It doesnt work right now because they are testing it internally....from what I've been told. It worked for like...a good 15 minutes when it launched on Wednesday and then they took it down.

It's working for me... well, the actual launcher. I don't subscribe to any SOE games, so I can't tell if it opens up games, but the interface and friends list populated correctly.

Steam is one of the worst things I've ever seen in the game industry ever.

Yes, charging $10 for Ricochet is a great breakaway from the big chain store model. Charging unnecessary amounts of money for games that used to be free is awesome.

That is one ugly interface. It's like they managed to put every bad interface cliche into one program. Bloaty, glossy, and full of gradients.
