| Running on vista. of course. with enough mobs on the screen (which is fairly common) and a fire weapon, I'm regularly going into single digit FPS. and this is on the lowest possible settings. running only ie in the background. |

| I am running into the same problems as Arrr. Horrible FPS if I am using any kind of splash wep. I think a lot of it has to do with the game's memory leak though. After a couple hours of playing my pc is running to a halt and I have a pretty beefy machine. Dual core 3.2, 2gb of ram, sli slotted nvidia 7800s, and raptor drives running in RAID 0. No reason I shouldn't be able to run this game with no problem ever and all the bells and whistles on. Yet it just doesn't run well heh. Getting annoying enough that I am ready to put it down till they fix it though. |

I've only seen the lower lvl stuff so far, but I've had a lot of fun with the different areas. I have to say my favorite weapon so far is the firefox launcher. The flamethrower is a very close 2nd. Once i tried cutting more graphics stuff on like dynamic lighting, I'm more and more impressed with the way the game looks while still running very smooth. Only bad problem I have is every now and then the game will freeze. Other than that I haven't come across anything bad.

| I can run the game with generally highest settings if I turn shaders to low. I don't know why but as soon as I pump shaders up my FPS takes a gigantic nosedive more than any other setting. Also I'm hearing that it's best to disable anti-aliasing for now as there's an uncommon memory bug with it that can degrade performance after a few hours. If your game starts to shudder after a while, exit and restart it and that should clear it up. YMMV. I'm a 23 Marskman and loving it. Definitely get a multi-moded Zeus or assault rifle and stick to upgrading that to make things very easy mode. Sniper skill is also very great as the assault/zeus type rifles are compatible with it, doubling damage and greatly increasing their ranges. Here's a short video I made for a friend to show some of the weapon types marksmen have. It has no production values and I blindly picked a song. It should give those on the sideline some idea on how the ranged combat works (which feels better than Tabula Rasa as it's very much like playing a FPS) hl_0001.wmv - FileFront.com Marskman or summoners with elemental builds should clear the normal game without too much trouble, clear it on multiplayer normal and start an elite/nightmare mode with a more challenging class if you feel the game is too easy right now. The game does have its flaws, but mostly engine bugs, and not crippling performance issues or fundamentally flawed game design. It has good potential if they can get out of this initial launch hump. | I'd been playing this game with groups for the most part, but after playing solo a bit, I think I'd get bored of the game very quickly by myself. Solo my guardian is just about impervious to damage and it's pretty boring. Contrast that to mobs scaled for 3-5 people where I have prayer of healing almost permanently on CD, require a healthy stack of HP injectors, and can be almost straight 1-shot by shit like the end of chocolate park. If you've been playing solo, you gotta try something like 5 people in the millennium battle. It also seems you get waaay more XP in groups. The item system and the "value" it gives you needs more clarification. My legendary katana has a value of X, but a blue hive blade drops with a similar value. The problem is -- the damage range is pretty much the same but the katana is very fast and the hive blade is very slow. The hive blade has three mods and the katana has zero. Is that where the difference is coming from? I definitely don't have the quality of mods that will make up for that kind of DPS boost I guess. Anyways, guardian discussion (I'm only 15): I've chosen aura of defense as my "main" aura and still think this is the right choice. 1 point in anchor seems obvious but I don't feel like I stand still enough for more to be useful, even thought it seems like a very nice DPS increase per point. I thought the shield attack line was going to account for much of my damage. . .but it really doesn't. Shield turn is excellent for clearing groups of weak creatures and I still want charge and maybe that passive shield skill but I don't know that putting more than the minimum in any of them is ideal. I wanted to go down the heal line to get the bottom HoT/AC buff skills (with that + max aura of defense, you can have well over +200% AC) but I found that prayer of healing is really good and wonder if I should max that instead. Taunts? I don't know. Aggro isn't very complex in this game. Get in front of the boss and whack it and it's going to stick to you. Jump through a group and get in the middle and shield turn and the ranged classes can rain AOE to their heart's content. Really not sure if it's worth it though the -def debuff might be useful later. I think I'll pass for now. |

| Been thinking about getting the subscription, since the game seems really kool, but I'm not signing up for shit till they get the lag issues and that fucking memory leak fixed.

Main thing is that Guy Fawkes event is coming up (next week?) so that's when the subscription-only content truly starts, if you're on the fence now, wait to see how they pull that off.

+1 Internets | I hate to say this, but everytime one of these types of games come out it just makes Blizzard look that much better in reference to their customer feedback. A lot of people bitch about CM, lack of communication etc, but if you peruse the boards over at Home | Hellgate London the lack of any response to the memory leak issue is deafening. Not a simple, yeah we are aware, and yes it is top priority in getting this fixed, and no we dont quite know what is causing it, keep posting error reports to help us nail down this bug. I have worked the software support gig before, and we would release monthly patches to our software. If a customer reported a break, we would document it, test it, and submit a Program Mod Request to the QA team. We would at the very least let them know, yes it seems to be broke, and we submitted a PMR so that QA can take a look, test and submit (they would basically reverify what we did) the programming change to the programmers to correct and fix it accordingly depening on the urgency. The key part is we would keep the client informed. If no notes had been submitted on the PMR (they would update with notes) we would say it was still in testing and that it hadnt been returned yet, but they are aware and still working on a solution. And when the fix happened we would PROACTIVELY call the client and let them know that it would be out on XX.XXX RES release. It just kills me when I see such a simple thing like communication being constantly butchered by gaming software companies. All you have to do is let people know you are aware and it is being looked into. At least Blizzard has gotten that right. They may not do what we want them to do, but they let you know they are in fact doing something, as opposed to keeping you in the dark. Game is enjoyable, but it still pisses me off that they intentional released this game in this state. If they would have worked on the polish for another 3-6 months, we could all be singing the praises of Flagship and Hellgate. You would think Roper would have learned something from Blizzard, instead EA rubbed off on him.

| Have played up to lvl 21 now, decent chunk into Act 4. Only technical problems I've had are one desync and one server disconnect. No memory leaks, no lag, no severe FPS hits. Maybe I'm lucky? /shrug Playing with the beta install. |
