Now that the NDA is officially lifted I'd like to start a more open discussion here about the various classes and your experiences with them. Obviously this is more for the people who enjoyed the game past level 12 but anyone is welcome to express their opinion. Blade Master I hated/still hate the way they jump attack. Numerous complaints have been lodged against this but they seem pretty steadfast about it as a feature of hellgate. I have grown more accustom to it over time but still I think I would be much happier moving and swinging in a fluid nonstop motion... I don't see the important skills very clearly yet but I haven't hit max level yet. I do see different builds opening up like crit master and phase master so there is much potential here. I do like charge and find thats an awesome skill but most of the time I just charge and auto attack. Unless I'm attacking bosses. I do agree there needs to be a change to the way aura's work so you get more power based on the level of the enemies in your aura instead of the amount of enemies of your aura Guardian This is a fun class in a defensive/offensive sort of way. Running into a large amount of mobs and taunting them then anchoring yourself and having at it is very fun. It is however a decidedly slower play style than the other more offensive classes but if the difficulty ever ramps up and resistances / defense become super important then this style may be king eventually That said a slower play style for a tank class does seem to follow logical convention. A well played guardian does not know the meaning of death. Marksman I played a couple of these but not very far up. Not past level 12 anyway. I just couldn't get into the run n' gun play style. I never seemed to settle into a build that I liked though tactical stance and sniping mobs from far away did work nicely. I could see some potential with a weapon with a bunch of "on hit release x or on kill release x" weapon mods... hehe fun... Oh I did like the grenades though Engineer I have played a lot of engineer but until the truly fix that drone bug I just don't see much point. I don't like my drone disappearing and they don't seem to be able to do anything better that my summoner can do anyway. Evoker Haven't played a lot of this class.. Not much to comment. I don't know what spells I should really take though i hear from 1-15 they aren't all that easy or special but after 15 they basically rape compared to previous levels... I have no experience of a level 15 evoker though. summoner My favorite class. the class I was awaiting to play when I heard about the game and the one that I do in fact love. I have played several to near level cap (I never grind out those last few levels I'm always trying to restart and perfect my leveling strategy) I love having a minion army and spam spawning more of the little buggers. I have a great time owning any level. I do wish the buggers would move faster and gain speed bonuses. At least make a talent that gives speed bonuses to the little things but as it is our talent points are stretched EXTREMELY thin. Also a true complete minion master has to put 99% of his/her points into willpower... But there may be ways around this once level 3 comes and master summoner hits or more gear hits with + to stats only retail will say for real. Subscriber/Non benefits I am very much looking forward to the extra subscriber stash and ESPECIALLY looking forward to cross character item trading. I had found on my summoner I easily stock up of thousands of each component since I need not upgrade anything but on my blade master or guardian I can barely keep any components in stock since I am constantly upgrading all gear. I cannot wait till I can trade those in between characters. Never mind when I find neat legendary s I want to give to other characters. Plus have 24 character slots is a must for me I already have 8 characters in the beta. Having only the 3 or 4 non subscribers would have would never work for me. I think the holiday events will be a nice touch to. I still haven't decided if I'll get the founders but for me personally I like the updates they are releasing and how responsive they are about the game. There still is a lot to do but they seem to be working very hard all the time with constant patches and fixes even if it sometimes it looks like they need more patches.

Love Diablo 2, and played it for many retardedly long hours, so went into this game with pretty high hopes. Got my beta account this weekend and played through as a Marksman. About half way through I was really only playing for the semi-interesting storyline, as the extremely repetitive combat and the single tile set had gotten quite boring. I don't know if they were thinking that "London Sewer", "London Subway Tunnel", and "London Maintenance Tunnels" are all different tile sets or what, but the environments really started to become rather tedious by lvl 12. The random dungeon generator is also plagued by overuse of fairly large set pieces, which just add to the feeling of repetition. Apparently Marksman are all about their weaponry, as their skills are mostly rather weak and don't really effect much, but I was never really able to find a gun I truly liked. Especially as I was plagued by never having below 300 ping, and the dungeon servers are apparently hosted on their side, I was constantly having to just spray and pray as aiming meant jackshit with the server delay. Really just felt a lot of the time that I was just running around holding down my mouse button while circle straffing the baddies. Only thing that could have been semi interesting were the different Grenade skills, but it seems lag affects their throw physics pretty hard and they just end up bouncing all over the damn place so they rarely ended up where I wanted them. Don't know... but this game just seems to be really lacking variety in game play. Was just holding down my fire button while moving around at lvl 1... same thing as I went through the final level. The plethora of "Go fetch 5 zombie bile" quests also really irked me... Seems they just went with the WoW style of quantity over quality for their quests.

All classes just run around and spray and pray or hack and slash. Skills take a very large back seat to holding down a mouse button. It'd also be nice if people stopped saying this game has 6 classes. It has 3. One "class" in Diablo 2 had a zillion different specs, but broadly, they all had 3 lines they could go down, which would normally effect the way you play rather significantly. For instance, a Necro could focus on big strong golems and hordes of skeletons, or focus on direct damage stuff or even focus on curses and such. Those all fell under the auspice of "Necromancer." And yet here, in HG:L, they divide them up into two "classes." You want to shoot guns and use tech pets? Engi. You want to shoot guns and shoot guns? Marksman. What the fuck ever.

Blade Master Guardian Both these classes are the hack-and-slash lol ezmode, they both remind me of the late D2 hammerdin in terms of mindless gameplay and kill speed. I leveled about twice as fast on my Blademaster than my Marksman, because the BM doesn't need to bother kiting anything, just hack hack hack dead. Surges are terribly implemented, they require a killing blow and so stop working when you party with multiple people. A lot of BM's skills are excessively situational (all the hit-flying-guys shit), weaker versions of later skills, or just pointless (sweeping strike, it's a normal attack with energy cost and a cooldown yay.) Guardians' skills are more useful and actually improve as you group (auras, taunt, etc). Marksman Engineer Too much redundancy between these two classes. Marksmen have generally terrible dps and need to REMAIN STATIONARY to employ their stances, but need to kite because they don't kill fast and can't take many hits. Stances were a terrible idea, you play like a hunter without a pet in WoW, nothing to take aggro so you're stuck kiting and doing shit dmg because you can't squat and unload. Escape is essentially Vanish on a short cooldown, it's beyond overpowered but slows your kill speed even further. You can kill anything in the game with shoot-shoot-escape repeat, its invincibility on a 15 second timer. Grenades bounce like rubber balls and are nearly impossible to target, and only do as much damage as a single rocket launcher attack anyway, so just skip em. The only bonus of being a Marksman is Beacon, which is essentially Amplify Damage for your party, pure ownage. Engineers are better in every way for the solo player, EXCEPT the bots are constantly bugged and don't reload properly. Reminiscient of the buggy high-maintenance pet system Hunters had at WoW release. Evoker summoner These two half-classes are the best-designed by far. They actually allow for a variety of builds and playstyles. Their only problem is that they are reminiscient of the classic D2 necro and sorc, due to a lack of synergies; if you invest heavily in the earlier summon/nuke skills you'll probably be fucked for lategame. I'll be playing a Summoner at release. Subscriber/Non benefits Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have to pay for a shared stash? Fuck you. Paying for raid content I could see, WoW should probably be charging an extra $5/mo for all the blowjobs they give the 25man crowd. Right now we have an unfinished game and a further moneygrab, thanks FSS.

Blade Master I like the way they implemented the way BMs attack. It's not just some type of run-around-and-hit-the-attack-button class. You actually have to know how to move around to be effective, and when you see someone who can really play this class in motion...man it looks sick, reminiscent of the trailer movie. I can't even imagine what they look like in motion at lvl50. I got one to lvl 16 but stopped because i wasn't sure if I was building him correctly to fit my playstyle, which basically means the skills just don't stand out early on imo. All in all though, this will be my alt class. Guardian Played it...didn't like it at all. I got one to lvl 10 before i was turned off. I'm sure this class will shine in a group, but groups are few and far between in beta, so all I had was solo, and it kinda sucked with this class and my playstyle. I'm sure I didn't give this class a fair chance, but I wont be playing this one. Marksman Meh, it's ok. I like the guns alot, but the marksman claim to fame is long range damage...and I mean LONG range. Which means scope AA is a must so you can zoom in with a sniper rifle. They can do some nice damage, but it was too far away to really feel like part of the fight. The skills seemed ok up to lvl 8, but I wasn't impressed. Engineer I haven't tried this one since it didn't appeal to me. Evoker I really like this class. It has some nice close-up damage (ignite) and some mid-range single target (demonspine) and AoE damage (flameshards). With a lava launcher or a swarm rifle for long range damage these guys can literally melt faces. Add to that the ability to drain power and life and things can be really beautiful. I got this up to 22 and started another to try a different build strategy. This will be my main unless they drastically change something to the class. Plus this fits my playstyle since I tend to graviate towards caster/nukers in any game i play. Summoner I got it one to lvl4 before I realized that a pet class is not my fort'e. I just can't into this class, mainly because I can't control those damn minions in a battle. It made me fell like Willard and his rat army. Subscriber/Non benefits I was going to subscribe but recent events with thier network servers has been a nightmare so I am going free for a few months then maybe subscribe when an expansion comes out (you get three slots for free anyways). Anyone who buys a founder subscription is plain retarded imo. This game is a LOT of fun and hard as hell to put down which is good thing. I havent felt that way in awhile about any game. The graphics are top-notch, even on low-end boxes. Ultimately, time will tell about how the playerbase receives this tiered subscription ladder and the stablility of their servers.

What you can see on this screenshot is the inventory/equip/stats of my level 19 Guardian. ![]() On the right side you can see three legendary items with a "no entry" sign or whatever it's called in the US. My character could theoretically use these items excpet that she doesn't meet the WILLPOWER requirements. Yes, items require stats to be worn and they will subtract from the stats as they are equipped. On the left side you can see the stats. The big white number is how much I have, the blue number is how much is used for equipment. As you can see, I clearly did not put enough points in willpower. It just is by far my highest stat! I also have 7 wisdom on one item and +4 all attributes on two other items. Yet I still can't equip THREE items I've had drop for me from bosses because my stats are lacking. I am wearing a GREEN shield because I don't have the stats for the blue one in the inventory. I am wearing level 4 legendary legs because I need the +4 all stats on them and couldn't equip the upgrade legendary legs in the inventory either. I'm wearing blue boots for the same reason and I am wearing a level 7 legendary helm because I can't upgrade to the one rotting in my inventory. This is breaking the game for me. This is a retarded, arbitrary restriction that only frustrates and adds nothing to the game.

| Not letting people wear the good gear they find is around a million times worse than players minmaxing their stats. Quote:

I agree, It almost means you have to start building your character at lvl1 for the gear you want to wear at lvl50, assuming no expansion comes out with better gear and different stat requirements to toss a wrench in your plans.

| I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that allowing players to customize stats (when some of them do nothing for your class) is stupid game design and I have to question why anyone would still put this in a class-based game. If you want to make a skill-based system, then sure, allocate away.

What Digo said. That part also doesn't make sense, especially since you seemingly can't reset your attributes or your Skillpoints - which is just terrible for a game like this. Oh you maxed out your super smash skill with 10 talent points, too bad we're nerfing it next patch!

Wasn't someone saying that factioning up adding extra skill points? I noticed random skillpoints becoming available but never paid much attention to where they came from; if faction reputation drives it, though, there are plenty of opportunities to further jack up stats. Plus, stat gear is not all that rare, and I thought I saw some +stat mods too.
