While I had passing interest in the game, the Elite vs. non-Elite play kills it for me. I can happily justify plunking down $10-15 bucks a month for a persistent online world, but to get "bonus" features like armor, weapons and eventually classes? Pass.

Especially since they are doing nothing more then Guild Wars and that is free, and has a pretty nice PvP backbone as well.

Well if you didn't like Diablo I imagine you won't like Hellgate, since it's pretty much the sequal in all but name.


I'm still kind of unsure on whether I intend to buy it or not. I'll probably wait until we start hearing first hand reports from people who've played/reviews/etc.

Well I know I'll probably buy it, but I don't think I'll subscribe, I liked diablo back in the days, was the first game I played online, I didn't really like diablo2 tho(mainly because of the shitty resolution, made me angry they never offered different resolutions). I guess I wouldn't be playing it if I had a real mmo to play, but until I get in war/aoc beta or until they're released, I don't see anything else worth my time besides solo games(metroid mario crysis, maybe buy a ps3 and so on). It looks like a decent way to waste time.

They bumped the resolution to 800x600 in the D2 expansion. The reason they never went further is because of click-lock. Basically, the distance on some spells is only limited by how far you can click. Makes fighting Baal really easy sometimes. Oh, I should probably also mention that when they increased the resolution it also increased the amount of viewable screen.

Ok they increased it from 640x480 to 800x600 then, but it was still too damn small imo. The graphics really turned me off diablo2, I finished the game powergaming thru it on one char and never played it again. I was probably playing a mmo back then which would explain why something as unimportant as resolution turned me away from it, I guess it was AC DT golden age.

who gives a crap about graphics, its the gameplay that matters. Ultima 4 is still the best game I ever played and it was ASCII art. Now days all people seem to care about is graphics and they mean shit in the end, it is all about gameplay.

Everyone blows the budget on art assets and we get shit lore and gameplay. Everytime graphics get better it seems the games get worse.

When I first saw people playing Everquest back in 99' I laughed at the graphics and said the game must suck because the graphics suck.

Lol @ my 13 yr old self and everyone that still believes graphics make a game or even come close to making half a game.

Oh that was my point tho, I probably was playing something more interesting if I actually quit playing a game because of graphics. Either UO or AC, and didn't have much time to devote to a non mmo(especially one without "real" pvp). I don't quite remember tho since it was quite a few years ago. But that's what I mainly remember from it, me having like a 1280*whatever resolution on windows, and the game being capped at a really shitty resolution(640x480 I guess at launch then 800x600 thru a patch?) which was totally out of the time. My favorite games of all times are either SNES games(Super Bomberman 3, Chrono Trigger, FF6) or old adventure pc games(Day of the tentacle, Sam n Max, Shadow of the comet) and I hardly find any interesting games lately(okami, ico, oblivion are probably the only good games I played in the last 5years).

As for EQ... I thought the graphics were pretty good when I tested it, what I found ugly was quake compared to duke nukem, I thought it was way too blocky. Too bad the 3D engines were the future of gaming, and duke nukem died slowly ^^

Quake 1 was incredibly blocky, you just gave an indication of the triumph of gameplay or graphics.

Im getting it. Hell if it has the attraction that D2 had/has, it will tie me over for a while.

But, then again, i dont dig the elite vs. normal stuff. I have a feeling, in the end it will end up like a lump of shit.
