It was stated that the beta accounts will roll into your retail accounts but I dont think there was mention how the retail key would work.

I am hoping that we dont even need one because I had to do the slowest shipping method possible due to using a PO Box type of thing so it could be two weeks after retail before I can play if we do in fact need the key.

not as of a couple days ago. You need to log in to access the client. It downloads very fast though. I got it in a little over an hour.

I really, really doubt FSS is going to enforce the NDA either. They don't have a legal leg to stand on since you are actually paying now for access to the beta, rather than being given it for free, especially since there is no mention at all of the NDA when you actually pay for your pre-order. And lets face it, its way to late to make any substantive changes to the game which is the point of NDAs (dont talk about shit thats not done).

So every single beta with an NDA on fileplanet is invalid also because you have to pay for it? lol...

It doesn't matter if you had to pre-order if you want a key. You still have to agree to an NDA if you want to use the pre-order key. Also the main point of NDAs is to protect their IP rights. As soon as there is no more NDA they lose their trade secret status on their project which means they lose a lot of rights under IP law.

I pre-ordered my copy from Gamestop on the 16th and got my key the 18th (A Tuesday) Not that I neeed the key but I want to lay it in retail.

Also a pre-order key doesn't get you into the beta immediately. After you register your pre-order key you get put into a pool of possible candidates. They send out a wave of invites to random people once a day so far. You will eventually get invited but its a bit of luck on how early you get selected.

Any crap you may or may not think I am full of came directly from the mouth of Gamestop customer support. As it said in my post.

Gamestop is clearly lying about their key release practices.

Edit: About those asking about pre-downloading the client, I managed to use some google, a screenshot 2 pages back, and some quotes to find the client download page.

It wouldn't let me download at all in Firefox, and it is giving me 'probable network firewall problems' in IE. Guessing there is just no way to download it until you receive your 2nd 'I'm in the beta' email.

Edit 2: I was thinking more about the key release procedures and I think the guy's exact words were 'we get our new batches in and send them out on Thursday.' This would imply if they were out of codes for the week, one would have to wait until Thursday (like me.) If the week you purchased, they happen to still have codes, then maybe you could get them on Tuesday. Otherwise, they are full of crap at Gamestop.

Just a note for those looking to order:

I bought the regular pre-order from GoGamer at 10:40 EST this morning, just got my Beta Code at 1:11 EST, and had no problems registering my beta account. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get in.

Fuck, I preordered mine from Walmart online right before I read this little gem in the Hellgate beta FAQ's.

Q: I pre-ordered Hellgate: London online from Best Buy (or) Wal-mart online but haven't received my code yet. When will I receive it?

A: We've been informed that Best Buy and Wal-Mart are not sending codes out to pre-orders taken via the web. We're doing everything possible to fix this and will post an update as soon as we can. [UPDATE: We've talked to the retailers and we are working on a fix right now. We'll make sure everyone gets their pre-order codes, so turn that frown upside down!]

I hope this shit gets fixed quick.

Finally got the ebgames code (took 24 hours). Now I'm waiting to hear back from Hellgate for the client download and beta acceptance.

It's been mentioned earlier in the thread but I'd like to emphasize how quick GoGamer.com is getting out their pre-order beta keys. It only took about 3 hours between placing the order and getting the key.

Of course then you still have to continue to wait for your official invite...

I'd just like to put out there that everyone should pre-order the game to get into beta and try it out. I was on hold with EBGames for 7:30 and then it took about 20 seconds to tell the guy my e-mail, where I lived and what game I had pre-ordered and now I am no longer pre-ordering Hellgate: London. I can't imagine they'd cancel the beta account, but if they do, I'll post it here so others know whether or not the free beta access works.

I've never actually ordered from them before but lots of people were bitching about EB and Gamespot issues. Somebody mentioned earlier that they got their key quick from them, I was just backing it up with my own experience...sorry.
