Fol was nice enough to hook me up with a pass, and I got through all the trouble of registering and shit, only to have the game give me an error at ~95% downloading the patch that it needs 1.7gigs free. Now I have to start all over on the 20,238 files or whatever it is that gets patched. Hopefully I'll be on Fenrir soon!

Ah man I just actually read the shit and it's not even patching, it's "checking." WTB a 2.2 gig client that's already updated since I just downloaded it /wrist

Reading the last few pages REALLY makes me want to come back.

Probably a repost but it's worth posting again

Little things like all the stone monuments in the middle of nowhere for the Crawler's Nest map quest and the great animation and cutscenes are awesome. Still sad to see no other MMO can match the animation and the story missions

Played for about a year on Pandemonium on NA release and had PLD 60+ and was working on Ninja tank and thief before my semi-static group quit.

IIRC they had promotions where they tried to lure back old players by offering to recover their lost characters. Anything like that recently? Anyone just starting out or interested that are very casual players? I wouldn't mind going back and just checking things out again very casually.

I had actually never seen that video. Cute, for what it is. This one is a favorite of mine, although it's got some CoP spoilers if you really don't want to see any of the fights/cutscenes.

Yes, those are all relic weaponskills. Yes, they're more pretty than they are effective.

So are any of you guys still playing? Got it up and running, even found someone nice enough to help me through the first few levels but the game is already taking its toll. I like the grinding-in-group aspect (which I haven't yet seen) but man, everything from inventory management to starting combat to resting in between combat just takes so...god damn....long. Maybe I'm missing something, but when you can only have 7 items up on the AH, where does all your inventory space come from? I've already more than filled it and so now I can't get any more loot. I'm hoping I'm doing something wildly wrong and one of you guys can steer me straight.

You can do quests once you reach Jeuno to increase your bag size. The current max is 80/80.

Sidhe, many relic weaponskills are actually amazing. The Great Katana, Scythe and Dagger ones come to mind-

It takes a lot of getting used to. I'll be on fenrir later tonight (Vexacion). Shoot me a message if you need some help. The first 30 levels across 2 jobs are the worst but once you start doing things like CoPs etc it gets a lot more fun.

The problem i find with trying to get back into mmo's like FFXi is that they are so un new player friendly, witch is why i think wow thrives so much and will continue to do so but that is a whole different debate to get into.

FFXI as a new player is just flat out boring now days people won't group with you untill you have a sub job witch don't take long to get but still much faster if to get if you can chain pull in a group.

Once you do get a sub job you have problems of not having the best gear available to you witch is very important especially for certain classes (at least when i last played). People will avoid grouping with you because you not got the money to get the best food or the best items at your level and the majority of people who are at your level are twinks.

Some new players do stick with it but so many fall by the way side all because of the difficulties in finding groups witch is needed from a very early level in this game. If they launched a new player only server done a big marketing campaign especially at the moment as i think the MMO market is in a bit of a rut with people waiting for AoC WAR and Lich King i think it could work i know i would play on the server

Well shit, I was suffering through the solo part waiting on the hopefully-more-exciting grouping; if I get rejected because I don't have a subjob I think I will quit. Auto-attacking for 30 seconds at a clip, 5-10 times in a row before watching my character "rest" for ~5 minutes is not my idea of a good video game. I have found some nice people, both from here (AladainAF you rock) and in game, so that gives me some hope. And everyone does say it gets better.

My own experience on Fenrir thankfully wasnt like that, I was playing a MNK without a subjob to 18 to get to the subjob quest. I was able to get parties in the dunes at 10-18 without people complaining about lacking the SJ. When i did the dunes run again with the WAR i grouped several times with people who hadnt a subjob.

The only comments made both when I hadnt one or others hadnt one was "dont forget to lotto for that piece" when an apron or worm dropped or even specifially aggroing ghouls on the offchance a skull might drop.

Put yourself LFG and wander around the highlands or the plateaus next door soloing, you will appear on the lfg system in those zones from within the Dunes.

This was all done in the last 3-4 weeks. Perhaps other servers have different attitudes but Fenrir seemed tolerant for new starters.

Pretty sure most people would like new people getting into the game, so they will invite you. Plus, subjobs don't really add much in the dunes.

I guess it would depend how Japanese dominated your server is. NA players would probably be more tolerant, I remember the sub job thing being a really big deal early in the game to the japanese.

I'm debating playing again, but its just such a grind. Its a shame about the game, it was always visually gorgeous and some things are fun in spite of themselves. Its a great world in terms of zones and lore etc, but its just such an inconvenient time soaking mess.
