Does anyone have problems with timing out? For about the past week or two I'll just lag out at random every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it'll go away for an hour or so but it always comes back. Makes it quite annoying when sitting around LFG while alt tabbed and when I am grouped with how fast people are to replace you if you drop for more than 30 seconds. My connection is stable as hell cause I'll be browsing the internet and/or playing another online game while keeping ffxi windowed and have no lag or packet loss and when I'm not timing out I have a nice stable send/receive.

Speaking of it just timed out on update just now. *sigh*

I dunno what it is with this game but I've had more problems (with and without windower) than with any game I've played on both PCs in my home which are about as different as night and day as far as specs go and both have the same issues. Between lock ups and the lagging out I am about ready to cancel when my free month is up as I'm pretty much as a loss as to why this is the only game that fucks up.

EQ2, WoW, Lotro, Tabula Rasa, Old Baldurs Gate series, multiple system roms all with no prob. Even two boxing EQ2 on decent settings gave me less trouble =O

Must be just you, FFXI is one of the most rock solid games I've ever played...never had it crash/hang once in 4+yrs

And thats across about 8 different systems during that time-frame.

Ya which is why I don't see how my 4 year old PC which can still run even newer games decently and this two year old PC are having even the slightest problems. Both blow recommended specs out of the water. Both are completely stable as far as uptime. I have had months+ of uptime with daily use with no crashing and yet this game will force a reboot at random for no reason I can tell. If I was having problems with other games I would dig to see whats wrong but I've put forth more troubleshooting effort with ffxi than all of them combined in only 3 weeks of playtime.

Maybe when I build a new machine in a month or so I'll give it another whirl.

I'd actually had a similar problem a couple weeks ago. No real idea why, and it was completely random. Just like you, I was able to browse and access other resources on the internet just fine. The only thing I can imagine is that there was some kind of routing issue specifically between me and the FFXI servers.

Same here, I've been getting lag spikes in FF11 for a couple of weeks. I presumed it was a problem with just their end somehow but I logged into wow tonight for the first time in ages and disconnected 10-12 times in a 3 hour raid (Probably my last one, just don't enjoy it anymore) Thankfully FF seems to handle it a lot more gracefully in WoW and rarely kicks me completely offline, the % gauge rarely dips below 70% before it plays catch up.

I'm with NTl/Virgin in the UK and reading around the net a bit, like a lot of UK cable providers, they don't seem to give much of a toot anymore

Ah well, patch download time!

My friends and I used to play multiple accounts on the same network and we had a ton of problems with timing out, the best answer we found was our internet connection like in the apartment and at the box wasn't great so it would lose a packet every now and again, and when it lost a packet it basically fucked you and disconnected you, even if the connection was regained. We called our provider and ran the other computers directly through one instead of a router and it solved our problem in a very annoying and inefficient way, but there you go.

Can try a few simple things to see if you can improve the situation.

1. Download the latest drivers for your NIC or wireless card.
2. Download TCPoptimizer and run it, improved my speeds and reduced latency a bit. I didn't run it because of FFXI, I ran it long before I had FFXI installed on this computer. Its just something I've used in the past and recommend to people.

Question: Do you have a software firewall other than windows built in firewall? The firewalls in Norton and Trend Micro internet security packages are garabage, I can't stand them (work in PC repair/support currently, way too much experience with both).

Only windows firewall and it's authorized to allow ffxi stuff to pass through.

I don't use any antivirus on one of my PC's and use avg on the other. As I said it's basically night and day with systems and both produce same results.

As far as drivers everything is up to date. I guess I'll try the optimizer but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Is there a place that lists server IPs so I could toss out a ping and check out if I'm dropping packets somewhere?

Yeah, SE dropped the ball with this one. Started it at 5pm EST and it's barely at 50% right now. Their servers are getting fucking raped.

Heh at least you're not getting dropped. I downloaded it to 50% about 10 times before I just gave up. Just canceled content IDs and I guess I'll give it another shot in a couple of months.

Now to find something to do game wise since I've pretty much exhausted all the games I wanted to play since quitting WoW in July =/

When I used to play FFXI all the time I had two computers setup on the same network. Whenever I was playing FFXI on one PC I could not browse the internet on the other or I would time out. This happened on a consistent basis when I used to play a few years ago, but I definately remember it happening all the time.

Anyone able to get windower working after the new patch? The PlayOnline viewer just crashed now when I try to open with windower =\

I know FF11 has its own windowed mode now, but I'm so used to the autostacker/party TP display I don't think I can live without them now.
