| Combat seems to become more fun when you get a bit higher, and start organising and pulling off big skill chains and magic bursts, and also when groups can start pulling off things like IT chains with close fights but pulling it off because players are starting to get better. General concensus is that Valkrum Dunes is hell and the worst part of the game. Quifim isnt much better, and Khazam can suck, but after that is when the game really gets good. When I initially started playing, it started to pick up around the time I got to Khazam around 30. Part of this is because sub-jobs open up more abilities, as a lot of sub's first job abilities start around 10 and 15, plus you generally get the good main job abilities around 30. Also around 30 it seems like you start to group with more variations of jobs in groups and jobs start to come into their own. If your just starting, I would suggest doing some other things besides just grinding xp. Granted you need to xp, but throw some other stuff in there too. I would really recommend to start on some missions, as they are extremely fun, and things like making your first trip to Jueno, getting your chocobo license are all coming up soon and will break the xp grind up a bit more too.

I should try seeing if its possible to get my bard back. All I have are the codes for Original FFXI and Zilart. No POL account number, no idea on the original credit card used. Of course I have name/address etc.

| Thats another thing thats nice about FFXI. It's not grind to 75 and do content. It's do important things as you level, etc... I'd try to get Rank 3 by level 25. Rank 4 & 5 by 50. Do Mission 5-1 at 50, do Mission 5-2 at 60. Then start working on Zilart Missions at 70 (Can do earlier but will be hard to find people who will take you I think. They also require that you be at least Rank 6 as the story branches into RoZ / Nation Specifc at this point). Can start CoP missions at 30. ToAU missions don't really start till 75 though. As much as I hate level capped content it does wonders in keeping content difficult. Pre Mission 5-2 BC's are all level capped in the main storyline. No RoZ missions are level capped CoP missions are level capped at 30, 40, 50, 60 (Hardest Missions are at 60 cap) and then uncapped. No ToAU missions are level capped

| Yeah I agree with Vinen. FFXI is really not about getting to 75 and then doing content, its more about doing stuff WHILE leveling, which is a nice change from most other mmo's. Missions come at all levels, as do things like aquiring your airship passes and chocobo licenses, along with hard quests like AF quests, and the level 50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 level cap quests, quests for your weapon skills, larger bag slots, unlocking new jobs, etc. Not to mention BCNM fights for level 30's, 40's, etc (Basically an arena fight against a boss mob for loot, and you are capped at that level). Also there is chocobo breeding/racing now, ballista (battleground like pvp) etc. Theres so much to do outside of level 75.

| Got everything up and running. Mapped keys to controller and went and knocked out level 4 and explored windhurst. Looks great w/ tweaked settings and has that nice FF console feel that I haven't touched in so long. I'll enjoy it more than likely since I've never been afraid of grinds =P |

| FFXI's servers rarely go down. They are some of the most stable I have ever seen in a game.

| Anyone here got an extra buddy pass they don't need? I want to try out 2boxing, but I don't really want to buy another copy, and my friend already used my buddy pass. Wouldn't mind passing a code back later if I do buy another copy though. Pm me if so, thanks!

Funny shit can start to happen if you box 2 characters on one machine using the Windower Application. Incoming Data can become mixed such that you see the other characters chatlog, etc...

| Not doing it on one pc, much as I've been a fan of that in the past in other games. Thanks for the warning though ![]()

+1 Internets | I'm not sure if it's the Brandson UI or if my install is just completely messed up, but I literally do not have the "Grips" category in my Auction House. Other people have confirmed it's exactly where I was looking, but I only have 3 options there instead of 4. Had to have a friend buy me a Mythril Grip +1. |

| Speaking of auction house. Is there anything to make it less god damn awful? I have been purely storing everything because of how long it takes to post garbage. Also for a new player trying to find prices and gear and such. Ugh I don't think I've played any game with a worse implemented feature =P Only moderately saving grace is a friend linking me to a site that has almost up to date auctions per server to check prices when I want to sell something. And don't get me started on bidding...price history or not. |
