I'm looking for a decent pair of pants for a Samurai after AF1, but before Byakko's Haidate. It'll be awhile before I get Haidate, and Shura and AF+1 are probably about the same distance away. I beat my head against this one for awhile, I've just settled with Hachiman, the accuracy for Weapon Skill helps (I like to tell myself) since I'm Elvaan.

People I tend to merit with... refuse to sub nin because it gimps their dps... least monsters die in 10-15 seconds... fucking decked out monks and sams -.- I'm happy when I manage to get a war to come along as they sub nin anyway.

So I wake up this morning and try to log in and I get crash to desktop as soon as I hit play and it starts to load up. Dunno wth could be causing it as nothing has changed since it was working last night.

Nah nothing had changed. I almost never restart unless forced. I finally got the controller working after like an hour fiddling around and went to sleep. Wake up and it crashes non stop. If I put playonline viewer into full screen when I load up the game it gives blue screen of death blahblahing about an nvidia.dll memory dump. So I removed all the drivers. Reinstalled them fresh. Fiddled around for another hour or so with no luck. Now I'm just going to remove everything and reinstall it. Family coming in town in an hour anyway so may as well see if that works before I decide to HULK SMASH something =[

Oh and do character transfers cost money or is it some sort of limit thing? Friend decided to start patching to play again and show me the ropes but he is on remorah(sp?) or some such but said he wouldn't mind transferring to fenrir if I rolled there to start with you guys.

1. Make sure you have the latest Nvidia driver for your card.
2. Update direct X.
3. Restart your damn computer. As Bongk says, it fixes way more random shit than anything. Period. Doesn't matter if "nothing had changed" I guarantee something has, or it would still be working.

I already tried restarting it after it stopped working this morning along with a dozen other fixes. I'm not exactly computer illiterate. I just decided to get rid of all of it in case something went corrupt and start from the beginning. If it still doesn't work after this then /shrug. My drivers are the newest, direct x is the newest. Nothing had been installed or altered by my end from 4 am -> 9 am when I woke up and every single other game on my PC works fine I loaded them all to make sure something wasn't screwed up with my vid card.

whats the population like are there many low levels and what are the play times like, does everyone play at the same time or are they spread apart I plan on coming back but with school, work and some sort of a social life I will probably only be able to play about 1 to 2 hours a day. which brings me to my next question is it at all possible to enjoy this game as a casual player averaging about 10-12 hours a week?

1 to 2 hours a day, is a bit light, even if you have a dedicated static waiting on you the very second you log on, travel time is a bit longer, especially if you are just starting out, and as a rule, most exp parties will want to xp for longer than an hour. Also alot of the fun of FFXI are the missions (think main storyline progression) with a limited game time I'm betting it will be hard to progress through even some of the early ones.

As far as the server population goes, it's very strong and with a new expansion just around the corner, there are new players everywhere, as far as the Linkshell I belong to, this is from another post within this thread:

Have to be honest, feeling like combat is incredibly slow and fairly boring. Playing daily still at the hopes of the game becoming fun but so far the 1-15 path has been very little amounts of 'fun'. Though I plan on giving it a fair month of trying before I rush to judgment, especially since I just bought every expansions 2 days ago heh.

Combat is slow until you get to the mid 40's? The low levels don't really grab people in. It's not until then that all classes have the majority of their non-WS abilities. Post 50 things accelerate even quicker as XP becomes much more plentiful in the ToAU XP areas.
