| On The Neverending MMOG Merry-Go-Round | I bought it and installed last night. Should be able to finish up patching and get a char made on fenrir tonight. BTW, holy crap was that a pain to install, as if their 5 installs I had to do wasn't enough, fighting to get it to work with vista was a fun experience in and of itself. Finally found the vista version of playonline. |

+58 Internets | Can anyone give me a break down of what's the best class to start as for future jobs? Like if I want to be a ninja later what I should be now (just an example, I don't want to be a ninja I think). Considering just buying yet another free trial because I've been so wrapped up in Orange Box I've put zero time into this game and I think my original trial is almost over. |

| I'm not a veteran to the game or anything, but the only subjob I have heard that is a true "no-no" is Bard. Most people say that if you want to be a bard, have it has your main job, otherwise it's useless. I haven't heard of any other instances where picking a certain subjob is just not useful. |

| An older, but decent guide that might help you get started can be found here: GameFAQs: Final Fantasy XI (PC) Job/Subjob Combination FAQ by wwwcom654 |

| The interface is unique and takes some getting use to. It isn't like any other MMO I have played. After about an hour last night I was getting much more fluent using it. FFXI definately seems like a game that you have to work with at first, and if you stick it out it will have great rewards later on. |

edit: Also if you plan on playing caster jobs, Black Mage or White Mage are always good choices. Unless you wanted to go Summoner, you wouldn't really want to have a Black Mage subjob. Red Mage would want both a White Mage and a Black Mage sub ready depending on their role. A WORD OF CAUTION: Mage jobs(when solo) are particularly difficult and slow to get up to grouping level, especially with no subjob and no prior experience with this game!

| Anyone starting on Fenrir should definately look up Nhilist and join his Linkshell. Everyone in there last night was super helpful and answered all of my n00b questions. You can look for people in game by doing "/sea charname all". Then to send them a message you can do /tell charname. To reply to somebody who sends you a tell the easiest way is to do "CTRL-R". This is all assuming you're playing on a PC. |
