You can choose where you want to goto now. Heck, they even allow server transfers now (I moved from Titan to Hades)

RDM is a completely viable healing class lol. And seriously, why do you need another healing class? Healing classes are always boring, you really only need one endgame one. Each class in FFXI has some sort of specialization, be it Magic or Weapons.

Black Mage: Elemental Skill
White Mage: Healing / Divine
Red Mage: Enfeebling
and so forth.

This goes for Melee's aswell
Samuari - Great Katana
Ranger - Marksmanship and Archery
and so forth

Well yeah, WHM looks boring, but not sure if a full-time healer is needed in this game, which is the case of most FF games, or it's like every other MMO in which you do, and only one class can do it, which is silly :P Pretty much, we're looking to make a good trio, one person being Ninja/Warrior (tank?) and I'd be some DPS/Support.. while the other person would be some kind of healer (preferably something that isn't White Mage, hence me looking for suggestions)

Maybe go with a Ninja / Corsair / Red Mage party set up.

Anyone who hasn't played this should give it a go. Even if you don't stick with it long term, the class and combat system is so good that no other MMORPG has ever come close to it.


Guys starting new accounts don't forget about the gold pass thing (presume its still in place now that you can choose server?). It has to be used on the first char on your account. The pair of you get in game rewards over time, the first being the most important. It allows the person who buys the pass in game to set their class level to be the same as the person who is invited.

I reactivated with a few friends from WoW and I decided to start a new character despite having several high level jobs on my Elvaan. The HNM stuff is what burnt me out originally and I have to say I enjoy leveling a lot with friends. Maybe I'll get to that point where I want to do HNM stuff again but I would like to keep it semi casual since we still raid in WoW anyways. It's been a blast so far and I actually would rather log into FFXI than WoW to raid heh.

Please, yea no more healer classes. I like my WHM just fine, and RDM or BRD in some parties is just fine for back up. For soloing nothing beats /WHM for many classes either.

That list someone posted on Sylph has a lot of my LS members on it too =(. Sad times.

WHM RDM SMN BLU BLM and even PLD are all viable healers given certain situations.

Two is nice. But, I've been in absoulty disgusting groups which are BRD, RDM, WHM, A+++ Geared Melee x3.

Most fun I've had in recent times was a group where we more or less wondered into the center of the area just off the Mamool Staing point and ruined the XP of another group by pulling and killing everything. Group was something like RDM, WHM, PLD, BRD, DRG, WAR. Utterly disgusting XP, we were pulling in 20k/+ an hr easily. Would have been better but we wern't even trying for amazing xp.

Yea - Kienas (not me since I'm a WHM) is one of those disgustingly geared melee. He and some other LS mates all melee + 2 BRDs were up to like chain #303 about two weeks ago. I am so tempted to level bard.
