[WoW] Is "Botting" Getting out of Hand?

I thought to take on this topic a while ago. Mainly I wanted to ask the community not really what they think of it but a more general “How much of it do you see going on”.

Botting, is allowing a program to automate your character while you are not present or actively putting input into the game; Input being keystrokes generated by an actual person and not a computer program.

There are several venues for botters to go through be it “ISmods” or the more mainstream “Glider”, each program has its own quirks but the main belief is that the people who publish these programs just make it easier for non-compter savvy people to get access to a botting program.

Now on to the question, is botting really that rampant on servers?

From my personal experience, leveling up three level 60+ characters, I see botters in every area that I normally grind out quests in. Usually its not just a single bot either, it is usually about 3 or 4 players in an area alliance and horde. In a normal leveling session 1 – 60, I see about 20+ unique bots, not including the bots I see repeatedly moving from area to area as they level.

My usual course of action when I come across some one botting is to send a tell, usually pretty non-descript “How’s it going?” “Long Grind eh?” ect… but recently I have been getting more aggressive with my tactics. I will log in another character that can FD and try to get them killed in some way or another, that or flag myself and let the bot try attacking me. I was a little concerned because I wasn’t sure if this behavior would result in me getting action taken on my account, so during a petition I asked the GM what is allowed to be done to a botter. The GM said that anything goes if you find a botter, have fun, get them killed, steal their mobs, whatever you can get away with against the bot’s programming.

So that leaves me with the question at the beginning of “how rampant is botting in your server?” as well as one more “How do you deal with botters that you encounter?”

You saying this on this board reminds me of the nerd explaining Blackjack to Pitt and Clooney in Ocean's 13.

what's even more fun is when you mix macroing + position hacks + gold sites...

WoW Forums -> Gold Spam: Going to new heights. Literally.

LOL

Level 1 gnome warriors are falling from the sky in Ironforge to their deaths, and instantly releasing leaving their bodies on the ground in Ironforge.

"Nothing new" you say? Well, so far the bodies have spelled out << The Name Of A Site That Will Not Be Mentioned >> and keep falling to form more letters as I type this.

I'm currently at the noob starting zone for the gnomes, in Dun Morogh, and have been watching lvl 1 gnome warriors being created, "flying" 20 feet into the air, then walking towards ironforge. STILL IN THE AIR.

Yeah, but honestly when a ton of people that I talk to online ask the follow up question of "Whats a botter" during a conversation I hate having to explain what it is after I'm rolling. So I figure, why not get it out of the way right now and if some one has the dumbass question then you can say read the second line of the 1st post...

That screenshot is awesome. rofl. I had no idea they were taking the gold spam to such extremes.

As for bots, I don't really care. I kill them when I see them and move on. The bot can just resurrect easily so it means nothing though, and I don't feel like wasting my time getting them killed by mobs. There's no real way to stop people from doing it. They will always find a way around stuff like Warden.

Thats happening on lots of servers recently apparantly. its remarkable how exact they are and also raises the question of how they are falling out of the sky.

Blizzard games, fun but rampant with cheaters since '95.

I stoped playin MMOs seriously quite a while before moving to WoW and even a completely wrecked economy and obliterated farming spots won't effect my enjoyment of the game given how little I play it, so I honestly couldn't care less. I see a bot probably every day, but I feel like it's stepping on my toes once every 3 months at most.

The best thing to do to a botter is watch their path, then start tagging all of the mobs on it a second or so ahead of the bot.

Found 4 killing yeti's in WS on my pally earlier today. After an hour of corpse camping them all, found out you can kite them...their AI will follow you. So I dropped em off in the middle of frostwhisper gorge. Quiet enough for a little while.

But yeah, that shit's gotta stop. Can't go anywhere without seeing a hunter named Btgh killing shit for 2 days straight.

Yeah, it's easy to do, and humorous enough the first time I guess. But, really, who would sit there and do that? Unless you're there killing the mobs anyway and it just makes it even faster, what is the point? It just seems like something to do while you're bored or have nothing else to do.

If it's to try to annoy the botter, that's pointless. They do that shit day in day out, if you fuck with them for 30 minutes it means nothing. That's why I don't even bother.
