these gamespy vids are interesting, only downloaded the first one and hmm I am not sure if I like what I saw there maybe casters just suck and melee is the way to go

the "mobs" seem like flickering 2d sprites and lack animations its getting worse the more often I look at it, need some more opinions (the spell effects suck too)

I agree, I love everything visually about the game except the animations, which is obviously a huge part and a real gamebreaker for many people. If they can revamp the animations before release, they'll be way better off.

Totally disagree with the spell effects, I think they look amazing.

The run animation sucks ass (gamersinfo char creation video).

Pretty sure there was a retard kid back in high school that ran like that.

Fix.

Edit: For whatever reason, it doesn't look as bad with the caster guy.

Animation is the biggest game breaker for me and a big turn off. I am still looking forward to this game but i really hope they will revamp some of these animations.

It boggles the mind to think some Devs can look at those kind of animations and think "they are fine".

Does anyone know if these are old videos? Has any devs mention anything about the animations?

Graphics and animation look good, but the sync'ing and AI make combat look awkward.

Devs have mentioned that the animations are constantly being updated in more than one of the interview videos

Happens far too often in MMOs seems like. Luclin models in eq1, EQ2 animations, Vanguard, etc. All completely horrible animations that ruined the game for many.

I don't really see why it's so different from other PC or Console games, I guess they're limited to what they can do in order to keep performance up with many chars on the screen?

Seems like the more realistic they are, the more people dislike them. AoC uses motion capture, it's the real deal. Maybe it's an effect of the uncanny valley?

I can handle most of those animations, but that run animation has got to go. As said before, it didn't seem as bad on the caster, but the melee guy looked ridiculous to me.

I personally don't want TOO much realism. I mean, let's face it, most of us would look retarded if someone recorded us swinging a sword around. Hell, even real battles probably looked pretty stupid.

I think most gamers agree they don't want overly realistic animations, they want 300 style epic sweeping moves, you want to look badass while killing things, who cares if it's a realistic way of swinging a sword.

Amen to that.

I would honestly rather watch my character swing in a "bad ass" way rather than a realistic way. I for one play video games to escape reality.

Want realism? Discovery channel.

I can answer the question regarding the lack of animations. I was at the hands on Friday and Yorgen Tharaldsen mentioned that there was a bug with NPC facing that sometimes caused them to look away and not animate attacks.

We'll have an article and video up on Curse tomorrow.

i don't get why they would make run animations like that in the first place. wouldn't they realize right away it looks stupid and not post vids showing it?

That is indeed excellent news. I kept noticing that in the last few vids and was wondering what the deal was.
