EQ2: Lore, lore, and even more Lore! (Dragons and Mayong)

Lots of random updates over the weekend. The daring guild "NPU" Ne Plus Ultra took down Queen Thex and lo and behold, who shows up at her side to save her life? Lord Mayong himself. The Queen of the High Elves allied or under the thrall of Mayong. Odd....

This isn't the most shocking revelation however......Check out the rest at their site:

Ne Plus Ultra Home - GuildPortal Guild Hosting

In other news, the Keeper "Rapha" who runs the site: The Athenaeum has spoken directly to Lore Dev and crazy person "Jindrack" to bring us a good deal of Lore about the Dragons and perhaps some hints of what is to come in Kunark.

Some of the better details:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Kerafyrm, The Sleeper Now Awoken ~

Of all the children of Veeshan, Kerafyrm remains the most enigmatic. Is he alive or dead? If he is alive, will he return to his followers? Did he have a hand in the destruction of Luclin? Did he personally form the Cult of the Awakened, or is that a ruse?

At one time he seems to have cared for others of his kind, having saved a number of his followers from dreadful fates, by their accounts. Does he still care for them? Did he ever really care or is it a means to an end?

All attempts at divining these answers or Kerafyrm's whereabouts are met with cryptic symbols and muddled images. Unfortunately, these answers remain hidden for now.

Nagafen, The Red Lord ~

With all my dealings with dragons, the most interesting one to me remains the Red Lord, Nagafen. No other has had such dealings with mortals. Unlike most of his kind, he sees the potential (or is it use?) of members of the younger races. He has allied with powerful mages, such as Najena, and adventurers of renown to further like goals.

In the grand designs of the world, Nagafen remains a wildcard, a force that plays all sides and seems to have his claw in much of the major movements of the world. He is quite definitely a concern of the Lord Mistmoore and a frequent topic of thought for Trakanon. The Overlord, Lucan D'Lere, contemplates his motives, and the Queen of Qeynos is troubled by the mention of his name.

He displays a love and loyalty to Vox that is unparalleled among his kind. He will not rest until he finds a way to reunite with his mate. He protects a clutch of prismatic eggs containing his own unborn offspring. Do all of his actions stem from this single desire to unite his family, or are there other motives that drive the Red Lord? In this we can only wait for Nagafen to show his hand, for only he knows what his future holds.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Check out the rest at
The Athenaeum - EverQuest 2 Lore

Thanks to Jindrack, Rapha, and NPU for the details.

Hah, I remember NPU, they exploited the living shit out of everything under the sun. I'm surprised that guild is still even around, and hasn't been banned for exploiting, unless they are under new leadership. Anyways, the lore sounds pretty good.

Yes, yes it is.

And why do I have an eerie feeling Mayong was the one who truly blew it up.... Causing such discord, and blaming it on the dragons to boot? Right up his alley. Then again, he may be trying to reform it. EQ2 Lore makes my head hurt sometimes, but it is fun

Funny, they got the name of their guild wrong. It's spelled "Nec Plus Ultra". It's a french expression meaning "highest quality stuff", or something along these lines.

I don't understand what's happening in those screenshots. What's the more shocking revelation?

Ne plus ultra is from Lathin, literally, "(go) no more beyond"
ne = not
plus = more
ultra = beyond (or above)

EDIT: Non literally means: the best thing you can find.

As Chronicled within the annals of the devout followers of Erollisi Marr known as The Maidens of the Rose, Nagafen, true to his dragon nature exacted a toll in maidens from the people of Qeynos, forcing them to transport one maiden a year across the continent and leave her in his cavern dwelling. This went on for many years, until a pious and beautiful maiden named Erollette - a novice in the temple of Erollisi Marr, the Goddess of Love - was selected. When Erollette sank to the ground before Nagafen, she uttered a final prayer to her goddess, asking only that her sacrifice be the last the maidens of Qeynos must endure.
Her bravery and selflessness touched the goddess, who took pity on her. As Nagafen prepared to dine, Erollisi used a golden thread to sew Nagafen's heart to his stomach, twisting his pangs of hunger into pangs of love for Erollette. Under the enchantment, he could not bear to eat her, or anything else - he was lovelorn after all. So he grew hungrier, but the more he starved the more his heart swelled in his chest and the bigger his body became, until he was so huge he could not leave the confines of his cave. He begged her to stay with him, but seeing the dragon was helpless, Erollette rejoiced and returned home to report the good news and dedicate her life to worship.
This was back before the EQ and EQ2 timelines split.

I must have missed something. Didn't even realize there was a boss in New Tunaria. Killing Mistmoore in an expansion, twice, under two different circumstances is silly.

3 actually. He's instanced in his Inner Sanctum, he's contested in Castle Mistmoore, and now instanced in the Throne Room.

You must not have liked Planes of Power then

He's also a contested. But that aside, it was clearly done for the storyline. There's somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 named mobs in EoF, I don't mind seeing Mayong a few times.

And as he said in the shots he was forced to abandon his High-Elf illusion and is now in his "true-form". It really is a bit of a curveball. I suppose he could've showed up and said, "See you all in Kunark!" /wave. But where's the fun in that? =p
