| Hey, it didn't derail anything with that comment, and it's honestly a valid concern of mine regarding the game; the world design isn't very engrossing at all in quite a few cases. Maybe if there were ways to modify the video settings in, y'know, the actual settings menu of a game about to release, I'd be able to enjoy it a bit more. What I do find fucking hilarious is the -1 I got for the post. Quote:

| as a non-PVP person I really miss having a ton of new content every 8-9 months. My hope was that with WoW's success they would hire a whole plethora of writers / artists / designers and produce high quality episodic content additions at a FASTER pace than EQ, not much much slower. Yes the "make-your-own-fun" nature of PVP has made it so they don't NEED to release content very often from a business standpoint, but sometimes it would be nice to see truly creative exercise. In other words that the reward for being successful meant that you could afford to be creative rather than the other way around. So that the creative part was the goal rather than the means to achieving a goal ($$)

| I was in the same boat with you Qhue. With the giant pile of cash that blizzard rakes in every months from subs they should be adding new content every 3 or 4 months. Too bad they have chosen to go with this ultra snail's pace method of adding content. Those of us that prefer the single group game get left out in the snow yet again. Running the same heroics over and over and over gets very old. |

+2 Internets | I think it's a question of how long does it take to generate really good, interesting content. Beyond that, to have it polished and tested. Then compare that to how fast users can chew through what you make and what percentage of them will do so before you could have released your expansion. Blizzard seems to take forever, so maybe a larger percentage are "done" with the content by the time the expansions come out. But do they have the talent available to work on smaller, more frequent content releases plus the major expansions? Is that worth it for them? |

| Just cancel your sub every few months, as many people have said theres no real reason to play nonstop if Blizzard isn't releasing content at a decent speed. I just resub'd to level a few alts after a 4 month break, I'll probably cancel again when WAR hits and resub when WOTLK is out. One day I hope we see an MMO promise and stick to a monthly content pack promise, but I think every MMO company that has said they will release content "faster than Blizzard" has ended up failing - LOTRo wanted to do patches every 2-4 weeks, I don't think that happened. AOC promised the same, that was a joke (unless patches that just break stuff and fix bugs from last patch are content). Hellgate was the biggest joke, although not even an MMO really. Back to WAR, I played around a bit more yesterday on elder server. Why are there only like 100 people on whenever there isn't a scenario test Waited 30 mins in the 20s scenario Q before logging off in boredom. I did wander the t1-t2 zones with my goblin, the world is pretty huge imo. I still don't really like the "look" of it, just feels like a dead, dark world but maybe thats the Warhammer universe, I don't really know much about it. I don't know if each zone (there are four - 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40) is instanced but there is a loading screen as you move between them. The zones are pretty huge, I spent at least 15 minutes going from one end of T2 to the other, ended up dying in the enemies base. You can move around pretty far between places, there are lots of areas with no mobs so its easy to wander around even when underlevel. |

+10 Internets | Did you make a level 1 character or a template character? There was non stop pvp last night on the elder server for several hours straight, multiple keep sieges and objectives being contested all over the place in empire vs chaos lands. etc. The fact you mention moving around T1 and T2 zones and them being empty makes me think you made a level 1 while everyone else was playing with the templates. |

| Made a template char but it was during the daytime, evenings are harder for me to play (wife aggro) I'll try logging on tonite, I have played in a couple of focus tests last week when there were 500+ people on so I know how chaotic and fun it can be with tons of people, but on the flip side when no ones around the game is pretty boring.Hopefully they launch with few servers and each can support a fuckton of people. |

+32 Internets | It is true, the efficiency of it will vary based on server ruleset but as of right now its working really well. You will still need to do something to get money to pay for your skills but seeing as how players drop coin and gear (generated) it wont take much pve. +1 Internets | PVP leveling will be just like it was in DAoC. Most level ranges will have an anemic population that won't support pvp leveling, but there will be certain ranges deemed 'best' in terms of fairness and simplicity and people will congregate there and rush through all other levels. Whatever range has the least bullshit with npcs, a decent length of levels and where the bulk of classes come into their own will be the most popular. You will not be able to level 1-40 just through pvp, but portions of it? Certainly, and that may provide you all the break you need to get by. That said, WAR left me both bored and unimpressed.

And yeah, sure you could just sell your account for (a few hundred dollars) / (god-knows-how-many-hours-you-played), but where's the fun in that!? Manning up and deleting your precious barbie doll will most likely leave a sour taste in your mouth, and THAT'S what will keep you from going back to that evil game. It's always so much better when a girl does you wrong and you just slash-and-burn the relationship, just because of the sour taste it left in your mouth. The same shit applies here. WAR is going to appeal to the people who aren't exactly PvE junkies that can't wait on a long development cycle. We're talking WAR fanbois and comic book lovers. Usually the guy that bashes on every movie that comes out but then creams his pants when he goes to see Hellboy. It's also going to appeal to those players they love the idea of world pvp. You know, those guys that felt wronged the moment battlegrounds reared their ugly head and sent those Hillsbrad/STV/Sorrow Hill days straight into oblivion. Mythic will have some PvE in there for the hell of it and they will tell you it's there, but they know their PvE doesn't have the slightest chance of selling their game. As long as their target audience is entertained by the mindless slaughterhouse pvp Paul Barnett dubs as AWESOME and TOTALLY AWESOME, do you think they will bother suspending their subscriptions on a whim as well? WoW and WAR are sticking to their promises, even though I can't say much for the other disasters that have been released in the past year. WoW caters to the casual gamer, and WAR is trying not to be WoW by targeting RvR lovers. You may not like what they have in mind, but then again you don't have to pay for something you don't really want either. Last edited by AsFastAsICan; 07-29-2008 at 12:39 PM.. | |
