Because there's nothing else out worth playing? AOC was pretty underwhelming to me. I can't even convince myself to log in after less than three weeks.

Because it's the Next Big Thing. AoC was the NBT, but it's now just the FotM Thing, and will soon become the "Oh yeah, I played that for three or four months" Thing.

You know, I can see how that might apply to some. But that's not me and it's not the reason I'm (cautiously) looking forward to WAR.

At this point I just want a game to keep my attention for a few years. It honestly wouldn't even be that difficult to do. Vanguard would have easily been that game if there were A. more players and as a result B. more developers working on the game.

Will WAR be that game? Probably not, since PVP tends to get dull after a bit. But right now it's really all we've got to look forward to.

The only way WAR will be attractive for you is if you're a HUGE fan of WOW battlegrounds with a little PVE thrown in.

Loaded up the new testing phase today. It's still just WoW with an awful, unresponsive AI and terrible animations and a better quest log. This game might wouldn't have been acceptable quality 5 years ago. I don't want to break NDA but people need to hear the truth: this game is an entire generational step backwards in terms of the look and feel of the fundamental gameplay and interactivity. It's clunky garbage on a level I would not expect from any AAA title, let alone an MMO with this much funding, even in beta. It's probably not even Mythic's fault, the Gamebryo engine is just complete trash.

That's why I made sure I had a couple internets to spare before I posted that. As far as I'm concerned I did not disclose any specific details of the game. I didn't sign a non-disparagement agreement, just a non-disclosure agreement.

The game in its current form is essentially DAOC abilities with WoW's movement in a world designed to be a gigantic version of Alterac Valley. I love it but I can definitely see why it doesn't appeal to people who enjoy PVE because the PVE is anemic. Luckily when all 3 racial pairing zones are up it's simple to level up doing nothing but PVP and PVP quests.

And just to give another more positive perspective, I have 2 WoW characters in t6 content, an active AoC account, and I still find myself only logging into Warhammer when the server is up.

It does have its rough edges like Mist explained above, but the core gameplay is solid. And if you like Daoc style sieging, world pvp w/objectives, and WoW type battlegrounds all mixed into a constant pvp/pve leveling scheme, you will probably like it.

If the main reason you play mmo's is for raid pve or arena style pvp, then this probably wont draw you in.
