It's all rather simple.

IGE hires/buys out Yantis.

IGE/Yantis Form "Super big evil corporation" to more easily manage every company they aquire, and for tax puposes.

Wanting to rid the tarnish of IGE from the rest of it's holdings, the "big evil corporation" sells IGE back to Yantis... probably to the tune of about $0.01

"Big evil corportion" then gets to claim it doesn't own IGE. (troof)

So whatever happened to the shell company that Owned Ogaming, what was the name of that shell company, I forget. RPG Holdings that's right. I thought they bought Allakhazam? I clearly remember IGE telling us that they were not related to RPG Holdings when they bought Allakhazam and formed Zam Network. I'm clearly lost, so Affinity Media comes from nowhere, with a million dollars, and buys up a website. Wait a minute, what funnel is the IGE money going into this week?

Seems to me the only way this circle could be broken is if someone sets up a database site that *everyone* then uses, so they make a ton of cash from advertising and never be tempted to sell out. Until then, whatever is the latest and greatest site will always be gobbled up by these guys.

Someone already made that site... it was wowhead...

1,000,000 dollars in cash is kinda hard to pass up though, you gotta admit.

Advertising revenue pays the bills, sure, but it doesn't quite make you rich, especially when you aren't accepting money for advertising that contains trojans or a million popups.

Why broke the circle at all? I do not see any problem for fansites being bought out for such amounts of cash. You know what happened when Thottbot and Allakhazam got bought out? Their services didn't improve and wowhead.com came up, a polished and improved version of old services.

Know what happens to wowhead now? I doubt we see any improvements there. A completely new website will spawn and be bought up in 12 month, making new/old guys wealthy. Being locked into such a network always cripples your freedom to improve the site, some not-bought-out site will exploit, just like wowhead did 1 year ago.

The best feature of WoWHead is that you actually get a decimal for locations (last time I checked Allakhazam and Thottbot, it didn't exist). Makes a big difference to go to 43,3;53,4 instead of 43;53

Also, the site uses AJAX extensively. The "page doesn't reload when I click next!" thing. It actually loads in advance but hides the content, when you click next it hides the previous page and shows the next page, while the next and previous in line are cached.

So overall, the "behind the scene" code is probably as good on both sites, but the Web code is 100 times better on WoW Head.

They are probably switching some things around since they have been acquired.

Try this

Start->run->cmd-> ipconfig /flushdns
