My reasons for using wowhead over thottbot
- speed
- far better mapping feature (undiscovered maps can suck my dick)
- better layout in general
- far superior item search function
- does not create login error loops every second time I use the basic search
- colors easier on the eyes
- clicking "next" or sorting on a search doesn't reload the entire fucking page.
- far less trash data

to be honest, I'd prefer gold ads over these fucking Zwinkies and smilies.

Read the entire post before replying. They only reason they sold is because the company is no longer affiliated with Yantis/IGE.

Anyways, it's fucking retarded...

On one arm they have their ZAM properties Allakhazam, Thottbot, and now WoWhead, where they make a bunch of money off gamers via fucking annoying ads (including keyloggers appearing on Allakhazam).

On the other hand they make a shitload of cash off gamers by selling in-game currency for RL currency, which of course pisses off other gamers, because of all the negatives associated with gold farming. This company also does other things unpopular with gamers, like flooding google (google bombing) with a zillion fucking pages of shit when you try to search for gaming news to try to drive people to their REALLY bad ad-infested websites that just rip news feeds of other actual mmo community sites.

Meanwhile profits all go to the same group of people who own the parent companies that owns both groups. Even if IGE isn't technically owned by Affinity Media anymore... By supporting sites like allakhazam and now wowhead, you are just enabling those same people to invest more in RMT business / farming operations, which allows them to buy more community websites... which allows them to invest in more gold-farming operations.. which allows them to... you get the idea

Yeah I find it hard to believe that Affinity Media sold off IGE. Is there a press release anyone could provide as concrete evidence to it?

I loved back when Yantis and IGE were buying up all those EQ sites only to watch them crumble from backlash by the players. Sadly I dont think you'll ever see something like that again. Didn't allakazham hold out for a good while until even EQ itself was dying?

Uhhhh, no. It's a big holding company that also owns IGE. Basically, it's a large company where that vast majority of its revenue comes from IGE, so it looks out for IGE first and foremost.

John: Affinity Media is a privately held company with gaming assets that operate independently. This includes the ZAM Network. The reason we are not more forthcoming in what the company owns and does it there are a lot of moving pieces. At one point, the company owned IGE but it was sold this spring. It was a private transaction so we can't reveal details. As head of the content network, I was thrilled we sold.
Not believing them is one thing (if somewhat stupid...). Showing once again that you haven't even read the thing you're replying to is just retarded.

So I would be stupid for not believing them? I would be stupid for thinking that they would be truthful about any association with a company so hated in the community as they buy every community site they can get their grubby hands on?

It happened earlier this year. I'm surprised you guys at Curse don't know about it.
