| I decided to pick up the game finally after swearing to never play it after so many years of original EQ but after running my millionth BG in WoW and trying out lotro enough was enough. Glad I picked it up. Started a monk on Crushbone and spent my first like 10 hours running around crafting and gathering. Then spent yesterday doing some grinding and stormhold or some such and got up to 22 already. Though all of you seem to be on AB. I've got two weeks of nothing to do but level while I wait to move at the end of the month so if I rerolled are there people in guild to run groups with or show me the ropes? =O |

+29 Internets | Well if you want to play a NEEDED class then I would suggest ranger, an assasin, a brigand, a warlock, a wizard, a templar, a warden but I always tell people to play a class they will stick with. People tend to quit when the going gets tough for "Needed" classes. For example, a well geared guardian is prolly the most Needed MT in the game, but it solos for shit and gets boring because of it, but anyone that fights through it would have a hard time NOT finding high end groups/raids at 70.

| Giving ranger a whirl. I've pretty much leveled everything class to max in original EQ and WoW so I'm a glutton for even boring grinding ;] I only get bored when there is nothing to do which even with a crappy class would probably take me months to see all the content. I'll shoot you a tell if I see you on. |

| I gave EQ2 a shot on a trial account some months after release and wasn't all that impressed, but everyone I says to says it's improved hugely, and I'm bored enough to give it another spin, so I'm DLing it now. Sorry if these questions have already been done. Wizards, any good? I usually find myself enjoying magical DPS classes the most, so it's the obvious choice, don't need to be the most uber thing out there, but canthey solo/group/raid competantly and find groups without too much of a hassle? I'm downloading the 'Play the Fae' trial. I'm going to assume it allows access to the Faydwer content, but are you forced to play as a Fae? Or will I be allowed to pick other races. Will I be able to start out in the new Neriak area if I want, as an evil race? Basically how restrictive is it in terms of what I can/can't do? Are there any unofficial Oceanic servers, where Aussies/Kiwi's etc have congregated. This is really something that's usually make/break for me, though if it isn't the case I know someone who runs an Oceanic guild I could probably get in on. Would just prefer a server with decent pop around my primetime. Should I go ahead and continue with the game, how much am I looking at paying to activate whatever necessary expansions/adventure packs? Thanks. |

So is the trial restricted to Fae and only Fae? Not a huge deal, but they're not the kind of race I'd want to play as a longterm character, so I'd have to reroll whenever I activate the actual game. Any word on unofficial Oceanic servers would be great, if anybody knows. I've tried looking around, but haven't found anything so far. Thanks.

For the server, try asking on the official forums once you have the account, there is an area reserved for trial accounts I think.

Will give that a shot, I went over and tried to post the other day, but it wouldn't let me do so (told me my account was invalid iirc). Edit: got it working, didn't see the trial section last time. Thanks. Looks like Najena is the place where the Aussies hang out. Read over their forums and it looks like they have a decent selection of Aussie guilds, so all good. Just need to wait for the last 60% of this DL to finish overnight now. Last edited by Azrayne; 07-19-2007 at 04:46 AM..

| I DLd the all-in-one package last night, and I figure I'll roll over to AB and give the game a legitimate shot. I think this time, since I always end up as a DPS or support caster, I will go 180 out and try a guardian. My enforcer in AO was as close as I ever got to being a pure tank, and I wouldn't mind seeing an MMO from that perspective. Couple of quick questions about that: 1) Is there any benefit for a particular race to be a tank? Like in EQ1 with the ogre's frontal stun immunity, or anything like that? I will go through the betrayal stuff if an evil race has some inherent advantage over all the good races, otherwise I'll just roll a goodie tank and press on. 2) Since it's been over a year since I played vanilla EQ2, and I was on a different server, where are the good spots to hang out for LFG on AB? Figure a guardian would be sorta painful to solo to any decent level, so PUGs will be the most logical method to advance quickly.

+29 Internets | The true secret to makign it to the end is the people you are playing with. Good people make the hard times so much easier to fight through. All games have these hard time. Your guild/friends are a huge key in making it all the way.
