+1 Internets | wow pvp tournaments should exist As in massive lan tournaments. There has to be an overwhelming number computer/ electronics/ etc... companies out there who would be willing to sponsor it. I don't know if you guys have ever been to, say, a counterstrike tournament- but they are fucking gigantic and pretty fun. Thousands of people come out to play and dozens of companies come out to show/sponsor stuff. And the prize money is really overwhelmingly abundant, even for people in like 10th place. Even if you lose in the first ladder you still will probably have a good time. And I mean, WoW has like 40 times more players than counterstrike, so i'd expect there to be a larger turnout. I guess you would need the go-ahead from blizzard to get a lan server setup with premade characters to use (which can't be too difficult judging by the number of private emulated wow servers) and whatever, a bunch of vendors standing around selling free armor/weapons so people could spec however, but it seems pretty doable. And people flipping out angry and throwing keyboard and shit around is one of the funniest things to see. I mean, this would be a chance to experience something like "HAMSTRING, WHAT THE FUCK" guy in real life! |

+6 Internets | meh... there would have to be some pretty specific rules for gear selections and such. Past that there isn't much of a skill factor there... it'd be interesting, strategy wise, but I'd much rather watch FPS/RTS. |

| It's incredibly difficult because of how long it takes to build up a competitive PVP character, and no easy way to prearrange matchups. WoW has a long way to go before it's up there with CS, WCIII, SC, UT2k4, etc. That said they are attempting to bring some elements into PVP with their own tournament and standardizing the Arena gear. So yes, it would rock. But I'm not optimistic unless they continue to push competitive PVP further with the next expansion. |

+2 Internets | World Series of Video Games That's probably the closest you'll come to a massive lan style tournament for WoW right now. That's not to say it's small by any means - WSVG is making great strides as the first official esports tournament to carry WoW Arena matches as a competition. |

People will come because of the good time, so companies will come (no wait they won't because it's not balanced LOLOLOLOLOL), so the money will be there. Everyone wins. Get it into your god damn heads, balance is absolutly irrelevant.

| WoW On a similar vein they should introduce mutually agreed matching for WoW. E.g. I have friends I used to play EQ with on other servers. Imagine if there was an in game mechanism to let us play 5v5 arenas or even guild AV battles against each other? Would be hella fun and people could organise their own informal tournamets online. This would be a good starting point towards the kind of tournaments the OP was suggesting. A FOH board guild 5v5 tourny would kick ass ![]() c |

Fuck no. The reason FPS's are popular is for the very reason that everything is balanced and they are all about your effectiveness with the weapons given to you. That's not to say a big sponsored WoW tournament wouldn't be fun or do well. But it wouldn't be in the same league as CS or UT because WoW is not a game any Joe Schmo can pick up & figure out quickly in order to be effective.

| I dunno about FPS, but I do know RTS are extremely popular for competitive gaming, and I know in Warcraft3 there were TONS of balanace issues. Abilities/spells/etc were changed/nerfed/buffed every patch. Did people still love it? Did they still have huge tourneys? Fuck yeah, and they were fun as hell.
