+8 Internets | MMOFPS Wishlist Now that we have come to the realization that a Starcraft MMOFPS is not in the works at this point in time, it's probably a good time to ask what everyone is looking for in an MMOFPS. Hopefully we can get some good ideas churning and maybe somebody will see this and run with it. So what do you got? I'll start with a few questions and tidbits that might stir some responses. ---- - NPC content: should it be strictly PVP, or should there be PVE elements? - Guild / player controlled areas (fortresses, cities, planets, housing, etc) - Opinions on vehicles/planes/etc - What is the best setting? - What is the best way to incorporate team based strategy as opposed to a zerg fest like PS. - Death penalties! - Communication - Weapons / Armor - Addition of non-traditional FPS elements - Faction vs Faction / FFA / other Feel free to add more. I'm just curious as to what people are looking for in an MMOFPS / MMOFPSRPG / whatever. |

| I'm not interested in one personally and frankly, I don't even think it is really viable. Many disagree though and probably enough to make it a viable venture. I do like FPSs, I just don't really want one with a persistant jacket. EDIT: The irony in my first two statements struck me, but I'll let em stand.

Heavy instancing battlegrounds/arena style is all you need to do to avoid the technical problems an MMOFPS would pose. Enormous world pvp 50v50 type matches would obviously sputter and crash, but they already do in WoW anyway. An MMOFPS should be completely PvP-oriented; all progression should be achievable via pvp... pve if it exists at all should be marginalized. No more grinding to 70 on wildlife and only then starting to PvP. Model PvP objectives after Eve, just get rid of the mining/isk grind wherever possible. PvP battles should determine control of systems/planets and thereby provide winners with valuable assets, but players should be locked into a major faction permanently, ala WoW. Get rid of that mining bullshit and have control of systems give revenue to the faction which is then distributed to players based on their contributions to the force. Every player is essentially military, the corporate/civilian side of Eve should be entirely backgrounded. Do allow communication between factions though, because that language filter shit is gay. edit: so yes, what Squink said. Last edited by mek; 05-19-2007 at 07:12 AM.. | |

| It's hard to figure out how to make a planetside FPS combat MMO work, how do you foreground FPS play and avoid implementing EVE-style space combat? A civilization-style minigame/tactical map of the galaxy? Can you make a sandbox game like Eve or would it have to be more tightly scripted? |

| Huxley looks like shit and probably plays like shit too. Say hello to Quake Wars: Enemy Territory. Yes, they have classes and you do get experience after you finish an objective. ![]()

+17 Internets | Planetside 2. And when you talk instancing/arenas with less then 50 vs 50 than wtf is the point of even calling it an MMO. Planetside pulled off 150v150v150 back in 2003. Latency was not the issue, but system requirements were pretty absurd.

| I guess you could so it like this: - Traditional Levels or Skill system - Get xp for PVE encounters - Swat style take downs, raids on NPC structures, completing quests for your side. Make it feel like a war and send the noobs out to prove themselves for better gear / weps. - Get xp for PVP. Fight the other side and win you get xp. Maybe have a DAOC sytle system for BG's for level ranges and a fronteir battle front for the big boy battles. It worked pretty well there. - The two sides could also compete with PVE rewards, similar to darkness falls maybe. Let it be based on some sort of collection quest, or maybe similar to FF11's crystals. They could just let it give bonuses to XP / loot / stats. - Lowbies will be able to contribute through PVE or level appropriate PVP in battle grounds yet still level safely and enjoy PVE content without level 50's with chain guns mowing them down. Higher levles will have their sand box as well. It could work the mechanics apply to both fantasy and Scifi MMOs. I would be interesting to see one and I might check it out. PS was just half assed IMO and wasn't worth paying for.

| Screw futuristic MMOFPS. Team Fortress Classic Online. You already have the classes, Scout, Soldier, Demo Guy, HWGuy, Medic, Spy, Sniper, etc. Plus, Valve is to FPS what Blizzard is to RTS's so I'm pretty sure they could kick some serious ass.
