Quality of the forums - Page 4

I too have been around for a long time and while I do agree that these boards have lost their shine and luster, I don't agree that it has much to do with Furor. When he was around, it was nothing but complaints and rants. From the news update about what was killed and how FoH was screwed, what was wrong with the encounters, to long and frequent rants about EQ and it's design team.

It was fun but I wonder how much of the loss of luster is simply because most of us don't have EQ as a drug anymore and the presence of MMO burnout. A lot of new peeps have registered since those times but there is no passion anymore.

That depends, are you older or younger than your avatar? If younger, you're an immature asshole. If older, your rudeness and swearing are kooky and endearing (as well as signaling the onset of senility) and you're lumped into the "Don Rickles" category. (he was just on the Daily Show...he needs his own show, modern day comedy mostly blows)

Shoryuken makes some good points. There are a lot of people on this forum that:

1. Make huge rants about worthless shit (Who was it that I yelled at for complaining about how the original documentation on Vanguard's website wasn't professional enough?)
2. Say the same things in different threads over and over.

The hard part about the moderation of MMO General is that it's so subjective it's difficult to determine whose posts and which posters deserve moderation. Two ideas being tossed around now are:

1. A list of guidelines for posting.
2. A forum where new registered users go to discuss MMO General type topics as an attempt to graduate to having rights to this forum when me or someone else notices that person can make intelligent posts. This forum would also serve as a punishment for people who don't make intelligent posts.

I believe once those two ideas are implemented in some form it'll be a little easier to moderate MMO General.

To the OP, I tried posting one of these threads before but I left out the hero part, it didn't go any better for me. In the end the immature 5 or 6 faggots whose constant drivel has destroyed these forums won my thread too. I usually get half way through page 2 of a thread before I click "x" on my tab. It's really that bad here lately.

I still read this forum a lot and I enjoy doing so. I try to delete stupid posts, but obviously I can't get to all. Someone usally do though. By checking the moderator log plenty of posts are pruned on a daily basis by the admins and moderators of this forum. If you truly find posts that shouldnt be there - just report them. Can't really compare foh to ej. As said previously, they are different.

Great, you credit this forum with saving you money by not having bought VG. But please, don't make it sound like this forum killed VG. Brad did that. If anything it save others from getting ripped off too.

Have you even read the LOTRO threads btw? Do you see thread after thread trashing that game? No. What you see are people saying decent job. Not a WOW killer but a playable, enjoyable game for the most part. Not for everyone, but certainly for a lot.

Did you read the f13 interview with Brad? Did you see Brad say that he posted on FOH basically to advertise his game? And if no one bothered to take him to task with his spin, how many more people would have squandered that 50 bucks?

These are shark infested waters, always has been and I for one am glad people take the spinmeisters to task.

Exactly. Go take a look at the non-Vanguard threads on page one of this forum...how many of them are full of insults, constant flaming, etc? Not one (not that you won't get the occasional dumb post in a few)...what does this tell you about Vanguard and the feeling that its lead dev's attempt at using this board as an advertising platform has inspired?

You know, the reason why I like these forums is because their seemingly unregulated nature. If someone gets out of hand, they get banned, but generally you're allowed to post what you want. If the whole place starts evolving into EJ I think a post about the "quality of the forums" would be in order. If people want EJ, go over there. This is FoH, and its trademark for a long ass time was a foul-mouthed renegade who didn't have a problem telling everyone else in EQ they were fucking morons and declaring himself some sort of god. When you try to force evolution you get burned and I don't think FoH is really the place for strict regulation.

Millie does a pretty good job with weeding stuff out and putting shit in order. She doesn't go around deleting stuff she disagrees with or feels is stupid, and that's the way it should be.
