You're comparing a bar to a think tank. There need to be standards of decency in a bar, obviously, but they're a fuckton more loose. Are there occasionally things posted here that I think are completely over the line? Yes. And I'm sure that Awake and the other mods will prune them if they feel it's appropriate.

Also, people whining about quality degradation are pretty funny. People whine about every long-running internet forum in existence. It's the same site I read back when I started playing these games and was interested in Lineage 2.
Empirical analysis is not something unique to EJ though, it just migrated from here to there once the floodgates opened up and the flocks of idiots came forth.

As was said previously, there's a middle ground between free-roaming airing of grievances, and the tight moderation of EJ. However, there is no reason to think that people cannot air grievances without doing so in an intelligent and mature manner. If they can't do that, then what purpose does their post serve? Until they can learn to make a post devoid of the emotional-IQ of a 8-year-old, then it really shouldn't be here, do you disagree?

I gotta say EJ's forums are pretty good. I used to go there for all my theorycrafting. However I don't play WOW anymore so I havn't been there in quite some time.

I'd imagine that once VG goes away, the boards will go back to normal. Because even in the LOTRO thread, VG crept up in that as well.

The audience of this forum has aged (see Sean through puberty comment for a quintessential example). So too, should the maturity of the posters. I just see no reason why a call from the masses to those in question to "grow up, or seek life elsewhere" would be out of order.

Meh...this place kills time for me while I'm at work.

I barely play MMORPG anymore, so i get to keep up here w/ the latest flops coming out.

Back then we all had 1 game to focus on, dissect, love, hate, complain about, and jerk off over.

Now everyone has a special affinity for their game, and bitch you bettah recognize...

So ya the nature of the forum has definately changed from one of focus like Sauron's EYE on the little Frodo and Sam too one of "your game sux cuz my game rulez!!"

But it is still fun reading while Im @ work....

Despite a lot of the negative retorts given, I thought his post was a great read.

EJ and FoH are two completely different beasts.

I get entertained when I come to FoH, and for bonus, I get informed a little as well. This forum is far and above better than any other gaming forum has to offer.

EJ on the other hand is like a library. You mind your manners, post appropriately and with respect to all, and know what you are talking about. It is informative, but sometimes it can get a little boring (when it gets deep into the theorycraft).

FoH we argueing about subjective things like "fun" or "what sucks". EJ we/mostly they argue about what spec is better, what strat works, what spell combo works best, and then back it up with actual results/math/theory.

FoH is as entertaining now, as it was when Furor was blasting SoE.

Edit: EJ/FoH are my two forums that I am glued too, both serve their purpose very well. Thank God for both of them.

You're making a completely inaccurate assumption that VG is going to go away. Unfortunately for the masses, VG will continue to rear its ugly, buggy, unfinished and clunky fucking head for a long time. You just watch.

Ah hell that's what makes this a fun place to come to. Just a bunch of guys/girls coming here to pass the time.

Exactly. I just think that people take this place way too seriously. After all, communities change. Populations of people who gather together will shift their focuses. People will come and go. Its that reluctance of change that causes people to assume that because things are different - that they're not as good as they once were.

Its a forum. You don't have to read it. You don't have to post. You don't even have to know this place exists. But it will continue to exist, and it will continue to change - sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Its the nature of not only the internet, but forums and social circles in general. =/

The hope is that more use it to learn than to perpetuate their stupidity. The overall IQ of the internet may increase eventually, but things I believe will get much worse before they get better. =\

The internet will do all things at once, it'll be great and terrible at the same time. idiots will flood in, brilliant people will do brilliant things, upstanding people will visit freaky ass websites in their off time. It's kind of like a reflection of humanity in general.
