I don't know how long Scott has been a part or the producer of EQ2 but he's done a great job with it and the development needs a great pat on the back. I really believe it reigns as the best "overall" MMO to date. If it only had a larger subscriber base it would have a lot more bragging rights.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that EQ2 would be attracting many more players than it is if not for the lackluster (one might even say ugly) graphics and zone-based gameplay. EQ3 would likely do away with those, and in my opinion would have the potential to be a big hit, if EoF is any indication of what the EQ2 team can do when given a chance. Fun stuff.

EQ2 biggest problem is the combat system, graphics and stuff are ok-ish imo, even good to very good at times. Zoning needs to go, yeah, but I'll take it over shitty performance every day and twice on sunday.

I downloaded Trial of the Isle again last night (haven't looked at it in a year). My previous system, which I believe was an overclocked Pentium D @ 4GHz and a 7800GT PCI-Express video ran the game like crap.

Currently, I have a Core 2 Duo overclocked to 2.8GHz and a Radeon X1950Pro 256MB card.

So, uhm, was this game revamped within the past year? Because even with nearly everything maxed the game ran EXTREMELY smooth. Also, the models looked half way decent and animated well enough. I didn't find them horrifically offensive like I had before.

Let's put it this way: when I looked at Trials this go around, it actually made me interested in playing EQ2 rather than immediately logging out to the Add/Remove Programs like before. So has this game significantly changed in the last year? I know they released that Fay expansion, but did not think they updated the engine or models.

EQ2 biggest probs (IMHO)

-Progression is too fast to enjoy the content.
-Too many kill 60 of x, quests. They need to make an active effort to come up with some slightly more creative quest ideas.
-No viable mentoring on PvP servers
-Easter eggs are too easy to get
-Need more summoning ideas for getting groups together quickly
-NEED TO HAVE 8 CHAR SLOTS PER SERVER... NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SUBSCRIPTION PLAN IS!!!

Those are my top 6.

-Quest sharing is an awesome addition

IIRC, the game engine has been going through lots of little optimizations with every patch and had a major one which went live with the latest expansion.

You really need to play EQ2 at the top end before you sing its praises too much.

They finally have a good person working on itemization, but the game has a long way to go before appeasing the "hardcore" crowd.

As for the graphics, they are horrible. Technically, they may look amazing. However, asthetically speaking, they are horrid. Textures are used way too often in disparate zones and even expansions.

Give EQ2 the artists that worked on VG and it could easily be the best game on the market.

EQ2's biggest problem are the same as LOTR's

Basically I was too lazy to retype all that.

As far as population goes, EQ2 is suffering the same thing that Vanguard is suffering from now. Both games launched in craptastic condition (with Vanguard being the worst of the two). That turned off many potential players who I am now sure have the mindset of: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennassee, that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you, Fool me, you can't get fooled again.

In my experience the graphic style in both games were almost identical, except VG's were a little more up to date. VG texturing was ass.

After playing EQ for 4-5 years roughly i was of the mindset that i would never play a SOE game again and went to WoW. Now after Blizzard has slowly but surely made the same mistakes as SOE and after hearing how well EQ2 is now and apparently SOE has learned what its like to not be on top of the food chain i can honestly say that if they were to make and EQ3 id be willing to give it a shot.

As far as EQ2 goes, its just to far into the game for me personally to want to get started in it. Vanguard while i had hopes, there was just to much information out there about how bad it sucked for me to even think about buying this game until i heard great reviews. I know some people took shit for flaming the ever living fuck out of Vanguard, and rather those people believe it or not they saved me money so thank you :P

I disagree about the graphics of EQ2. Perhaps at launch, and even up through the first couple of expansions, but the latest expansion, EoF, looks incredible to me. They got alot of the art just perfect, and it runs silky smooth, WAY better than vangaurd, and IMO EQ2 looks better than vangaurd.

My only complaint with EQ2 atm is its insane amount of button mashing and sheer number of abilities.

That said I dont really play EQ2. In fact I dont really play anything anymore. Simply no time. I bought Lotr, and I play it for like 30 minutes to an hour just to run around and look at the pretty sights, and will probably cancel when my free 30 days are up.

I always come back and play EQ2 when the expansion hits because there are a ton of solo quests to complete. After I finish them all, I stop playing, simply because I dont have time to group/raid. I'm sure I'll be back to playing as soon as the next expansion hits, whenever that is, but right now, I'm out of solo quests and time to play.

Not really. The game really was re-launched with EoF, and it doesnt take long to level up. Thats a complaint alot of people have, in you level almost too fast for how much content there is.
