What you don't know and what most of us don't know, is just how much financial trouble Sigil may be in. We don't know what sort of cut they're providing to SOE. We don't know what sort of debt they may have. We haven't seen a post from McQuaid since his giant "this is how we fucked up" monologue. And when I read it, it stood out to me as a suicide note of sorts.

You might see they have no reason for them to jump ship - but LFG is normally pretty spot on with his 'rumors'. He's been wrong before, but he's been right a lot more. I'd venture to guess that he has an inside connection, especially since he's willing to put a specific timeframe on this rumor (next week). Like others have said, this is a pretty big deal for Sigil and you would think with this 'rumor' flowing on every forum and MMO blog on the internet - that someone would have came forward and addressed the community.

The fact that nobody from SOE/Sigil debunked the story in this very thread leads me to believe it's true.

etc...

Compared to those VG is sitting pretty.

Some of those games at one time had thriving communities; SWG especially. VG never enjoyed such a honeymoon period. It went right into the septic tank.

If you think this is generating positive press, think again. Just about everyone associates this with the "supposed" downfall of EQ1 and the CU/NGE of SWG.

That graph is the number of people who have gained a level (crafting OR adventure). As you get higher in level you gain levels less frequently.

Considering that most of the active population is probably moving towards the high end of the level spectrum where levels are incurred less frequently, that graph suggests to me that there really isn't anything going on in VG. If anything it suggests to me that they are still getting a good number of new players (chars/whatever) to keep that "levels gained / day' average more or less plateaued.

I don't think this is good press for VG personally. When SOE took over publishing, a good chunk of VG fanbois were on the fence about the game but only stayed around because SOE were only publishing the game. If SOE are handling everything, there is going to be another round of SOE insults thrown around and more people will leave - I'm sure of that.

Regardless, the game needs a lot more than press right now.

Seeing how the NPD reported VG grossed $533k (about 12k boxes) for the month of March, I think the influx is a bit shy of 'good'.

Nah, they can't debunk every rumor. If every time a false rumor comes out and they're asked about it and they say "It's false", then when a true rumor comes out and they're asked about it and they say "No comment", everyone knows it's true.
