| Guild Wars - worth playing ? I'm not sure this is the right place to post it, as someone posted something about an expansion to this game at the "Other Games" thread, but it being an MMORPG I'm posting it here. I wanted to know what people think about this game, compared to today's MMO market - from what I understood this isn't exactly an ordinary MMO. So - feel free to recommend. |

+1 Internets | I think it's a pretty good game for being free, and it all really depends on what kind of gameplay you're looking for. When I played Guild Wars, I never really was able to get immersed in the game, and even though it had real nice graphics, it just didn't click with me. The PvP is apparently pretty decent, but I can't say much about it since I never put much play time in it. The community seemed to be real immature, and most of the players seemed to be rather young. If I were you, I'd give it a try, or wait until Guild Wars 2 comes out. |

| Have you ever played it? If no, I'd say yes. It's reasonably simple and fun. Think of it more like Diablo than an MMO and you'll have a blast. The graphics are simple but beautiful. I played the original game, and a bit of the first 'expansion' and found them fun. However, I found the content pretty lacking. After a while it's repetitive. There's very little depth to your character development, and the world is crowded as all hell because all the dungeons are instanced. Travel is instant around the world. Basically, if you don't go into it expecting your typical MMO, then I think you'll have fun. But if you're looking for an EQ-style game, look elsewhere. EDIT: Oh, and the PVP is a blast. The game is worth it for that if nothing else.

+1 Internets | It's a very well made game actually, in a sea of shit. It's just one of those games where you love it or you don't.My wife plays it and likes it a lot, I however couldn't get in to it. I do respect it though and like watching her play it, it's gorgeous. I'd say give it a shot, there's no monthly fee, so you could play it as casually as you want and not feel shitty about making that monthly payment. If you're in to PvP it's one of the best and most diverse games out there for that. |

+1 Internets | It is indeed different from traditional mmo's, but in a very enjoyable way. Really the only reason I didn't get into GW more seriously is due to not having enough friends interested in it to have 4-man groups to pvp with (when I last played there were random teams you could queue for solo, 4v4 arranged-team random battles, and the larger 8v8 guild-oriented ranking matches, don't know if anything has been added since then). I liked the way gear and progression was handled ("good" gear is basically standardized and available to you once you hit max level, 90% of any money/grinding you might do in regards to equipment is for looks... unlocking spells, however, is another story although you can drop some cash to unlock an entire class-worth of spells for PVP only if you don't want to unlock them normally). At the very least it's worth picking up a box and giving it a run through whatever campaign, which will also involve you capping a character (very easy to level). Someone who is more up-to-date can provide you with advice as to your best starter options as I haven't played in quite a long time. |

| Only one of the four boxes is technically an expansion, and they sell the others for full price still (though you can probably find them discounted somewhere) you really don't need all of them.

| also, on that note, if you are buying for the first time, you can get the games in their PvP forms, i.e. all the skills from each one you buy unlocked so you can get right into lvl 20 pvp. |

| GW Another neat twist is that a lot of the (nightfall) campaign requires a group to complete, but, instead of being forced to find a group you can hire heros to group with and command them in battle. I didnt like that concept to begin with , but its a nice change of pace if you're looking for a game to just drop in and out of. The PVP is very cool. Nice that you have the option to roll a lvl20 char to PVP with at the start and then unlock more skills via PVP! |

+2 Internets | I picked up GW two weeks ago for something else to do and I'm having a blast with it. The game is much deeper then I thought it would be. Oddly enough, it kind of reminds me of a quasi-Baldur's Gate MMO. Running around the countryside with your group of henchmen is pretty damn fun and there hasn't been any quests or missions that I've run into that required me to group with actual real people (granted, I'm only like 4 missions in so this may change.) I really, really like the class system in GW. I am a Monk/Ranger who only uses the Ranger skills to run around with a wolf pet....I mean, I'm a main healer with a pet. How cool is that? If you are starting out, buy the first "game" of GW: Prophecies. At $30 bucks the game is a steal. If there is anything that playing GW has done for me, it's make me really look forward to Guild Wars 2. If they go in the direction they want to (a slightly more MMO feel without the grind) and don't change too much of the core mechanics, I'm sold. |

| I really like Guild Wars. It's easy to play solo, but it's really fun to get some friends + vent and run through the missions. I can't speak much for the PVP because I suck at it. I'm really, really looking forward to GW2.
