| I used to play with Luclin models for only one reason, and that was because there seemed to be much more diverse armor displays using them. I've always preferred the old models themselves, but everyone just looks the same armor-wise. There is one Luclin model I like better than the originals. Iksar. This is due to the fact that old Iksar models do not look very cool swinging a weapon (or simply punching for that matter). You can tell the real new people in game right now. They actually support these new models because they think the Drakkin model is cool. If you mention to them (I've had a few discussions in the "general" channel lately about this) that the new humans are simply Drakkin without tatoos, they don't see anything wrong with that. I rolled up a Drakkin bard about a week ago. I do like the way armor looks on that race. If you're just standing still it doesn't look too bad. It's when you run/turn/attack/and in the case of a bard, play an instrument (there appears to be absolutely NO animation for brass weapons) that the model really starts to look like shit and I weep for any old school player that is about to have their human model do the same thing .Bottom line...they need to not let those human models go live. |

+7 Internets | Character models are one of the most subjective elements of any game. If someone likes them or doesn't like them, there's little you can do to convince them of the opposite view. This is especially true when a game changes existing models in a live game, because then you add in the fact that players have developed an emotional attachment to their characters. As a player I get intrigued by change, so things like this tend to draw me back for a look. What I'd *really* like EQ to revamp is the character and camera controls. Whenever I come back to check out what's new in the game, the fact that the feel of the controls is so different from modern MMOs really makes it hard for me to stick with it. |

| I should've said Uma Thurmon back in the Pulp Fiction era, now it looks like she's got a bad case of apetit. Oh and old iksar looked like fucking kermit the frog with the spindly arm-swinging and everything, quite possibly the most overrated model ever.

However, well-executed cannot be said for all of the Luclin models. The Humans weren't bad I guess. The Ogres/trolls were different, but ok. But... the idle standing to the side was just annoying (one reason blood elves look so faggy) not to mention half of the races sat like women. The bad running and swinging for many races were inexcusable considering you are running or swinging for 90% of the game. The gnomes/halflings were just atrocious. It was a huge mistake not to remain true to the spirit of the original models, just higher poly and more armor. EQ is long overdue for some actual good models. The shots linked are mixed certainly, some good, some not so good. The animations will be the deciding factor for sure.

| i can't believe people are defending the luclin models. my biggest problem with them is that they let people change what their characters looked like, which totally killed the image i had in my head of different people. if they would have modeled them after the original models (even if there were only like 6 per race) i would have been accepting. |

| Letting people change how they looked was a good thing imo, if you are gonna be playing an mmo for years with one char you should be able to change how they look every once in a while, it gets boring never being able to change it, or if you decide you dont like something about them. |

| You could change it. IIRC even after you picked a new model with /face or however you did it once you installed Luclin or turn the Luclin models on, you could always do /face. Your models wouldn't change but the look would. Albeit slightly. The high elf and human male ones (some of them) look ok. Human female look fucking retarded. I almost prefer the old graphics to some of the Luclin ones (I thought human females look nice in Luclin but their running drove me fucking crazy) but the boxy look of old char graphics leaves much to be desire. Just copy WoW's fight animation, throw them onto Luclin models with slight tweaks and call it a day. |

+7 Internets | Those older controls are really just the “unsung hero’s” of today’s modern controls. Stick with them Steve. I am sure if you keep trying you will learn to like them.. |

+49 Internets | I agree with Moorguard. The last time they had a free EQ weekend I tried it out again after being away for years. Good lord the controls and UIs sucked. I walked around plane of knowledge and tranq, noticed 0 people I knew, then logged ;p

+10 Internets | No doubt. Saying that the old models are among the greatest is laughable at best. I turned Luclin models on for all races once I had a PC that would run them. They were not good (and the animations were garbage,) but overall they were better. Every now and then I'd turn them off and I would literally laugh out loud when I looked at old models because of how goofy and awkward they were. They were blocky, stood like they had a stick up their ass, and some of the female races (especially the Dark Elf and High Elf ones) had vapid, airhead looks on many of the faces. I'm not slamming on the EQ originals as they did the best the could at the time. However, they've been far, far exceeded in later MMO's. |

Any awkard/goofiness in faces/poses lended well to roleplaying. There was an elegance in their simplicity. They did a lot with very little.

That said, I think the Luclin models (the mesh/textures themselves) were really well done, but the animations really made them horrible. If they had fluid/amazing animations, I don't think as many people would have complained about them. The same can probably be said about the newest models, except the proportions are actually an issue as well (something I didn't have an issue with in the Luclin models).
