It really does highlight the big issue for VG, Quality vs Quantity, and in a game world that size, Quantity is probably going to win out. The one silver lining is if the population stays low, they can "corral" all the people into a few areas, and rope off the rest of the empty world.

I suggest Xregg's Screenshot Thread. Put it in general even, if you don't think it'll catch the traffic you are looking for in Screenshots.

The post about the 'instances for pve', 'none for pvp' has merit. I'd like to think a happy medium could be found. I think Sigil fully understand that and were going about it with AES. Unfortunately, like a lot of things, it was harder to implement then they thought and doesnt exist. I think the bosses now are just straight uop hack and slash too because of the same reasons.

Not having instances does not matter at all either way for leveling to 50. But for raids, they better have something to take its place for the vast majority of encounters.

I like diplomacy as well, and I'm told this was also supposed to be tied into the game more, but again, time and money constraints nailed them again. Unfortunately, itjust feels like its tacked on the side. This could have been gold if it was tied into the adventuring leveling curve. As it is, most dont see the content.

I think they've got a pretty good grasp on mudflation. There are a few enconomy problems that need fixing however. For example, rare harvesting materials are trivialized by crafters deconstruncting. This is sort of like what WoW would be like if when disenchanting an item you got your shard and your arcanite crystals with it.

ROFLMAO that is so funny! Thanks for pointing it out; no other designers reuse models to save on memory and load times. HAHA!!

I forgot to add. The only current thing in VG to replace instances, is farm x tokens to summon your own boss. These are fucked up. Think AQ gate opening, bug farming(albeit admittedly not that bad) and you have VG's current alternative to instances.

If raids are like this, angry I will be. Seduced by the dark side.

I didn't say that was the case. I was remarking that they used the exact same texture in the exact same position on all those columns. I can clearly remember that Brad really hyped on how the world was going to be "hand made" and while you could argue it was a hand that hit each of those columns with the paint brush (or whatever the tool is called) it looks robotic, unnatural, and it really stands out.

I read through all the text UT added to it, I was able to see what he was saying on most of it (I didnt get the wall rug comment) but my eyes kept getting drawn to the columns.

Is it beyond the capability of a 3rd gen game to slightly alter the position of the texture map so they don't all line up exactly the same ? Maybe reverse the texture ? Turn it upside down ? Something ? Anything ?

If the reuse of texture doesn't matter, if the world doesn't have to appear natural or realistic, why bother texturing it at all ? Why not just go back to Muds ?

I will say the mob in that picture looks pretty bad ass, hats off on at least that one. Why the mobs got more model love then the players is another topic entirely

Part of their solution was supposed to be the advanced encounters (instanced scripting), but the game has very few (and not very creative, that I've seen). I can't really recall much normal scripting, either... another reason why I'm not playing.

I'm not really sure what techniques the artists have to work with, but it's pretty clear around the entire game that the artist's don't spend too much time perfecting areas. Their decision to make a giant world and also have higher resolution textures results in what you're seeing now; I don't think the payoff was worth it, but I'm a graphics whore..

I could have sworn I saw an official / semi official post that they were scrapping or shelving development on AES, I want to say to get the beta as in good of shape as it could be for launch.

I know there are some places that have that in place, can anyone confirm if they are working on this again ? Believe it or not that was one of the biggest draws for me from way back in the day on the FAQ. The way they described it sounded cool as shit.
