And that's all there is to it really. What we are seeing now is that the number of people like Nairbog isn't nearly as high as speculated. All those 'old-school' EQ people realized that there was more than one way to do it.. and while some still prefer the original way, most of them don't.

Well, its totally awesome that you guys research me and try to figure out what levels my characters are and how often I play them Either way, I started out in Cael Brael and I don't have to try to justify why I didn't like the game. Bottom line is it wasn't for me, and I respect your opinions.

Cuppy Cuppy... Don't come to a Vanguard thread and post something negative... You should know better by now!

Ok, so you didn't have a 15 bard then. Just wanted confirmation on that. As for WoW's newbie experience, I had about as much fun as I did with VG. (except Tanvu which blows any newbie experience out of the water IMO) Each newbie experience is linear and fairly bland. Think back, as a dwarf, what tasks were you set out to complete in the early levels? I remember killing alot of pigs, wolves, and bears. Ok yes, you did kill some tiny non-animal mobs but same goes for VG, which has you killing racial mobs right from the start in many cases. I also felt like I was on rails the entire time, just like I did in VG's newbie zones. Other than the cutscene (which I really liked) what was so different about WoW's newbie zones?

Well, at least I posted a link to the player housing video that was released today. I try to contribute positive things for everything negative I post

They had an interesting storyline that lasted from 1-15 or so. Vanguard only really had that in the Orc/Goblin starting area, and I'd argue it didn't qualify for the "interesting" part.

For someone that always asks for specifics you're quite the hypocrite.

"You no take candle!" hooked me into WoW, then slapping around 1 ft tall murloc babies in Goldshire sealed the deal.

The thing is, Vanguard does too but much of it is "locked away" in the diplomacy quests for that area, which I have admitted is an issue. I don't think it's as severe as you're implying though, every single starting zone in Vanguard has a storyline as far as I know. (I have only played the half elf, barbarian, and thestran human starting progression since release)

You didn't ask for specifics, you asked what was different. Vanguard just felt like it was cheap WoW knock-off in the newbie zone. They were pretty similar in some aspects, one just happened to be fun and the other didn't.

Not that asking for differences implies details other than your personal emotional response to the game. You must be a shill, I refuse to believe anyone could really be that hardheaded.

Now this I agree with! This is very true... I started a dark elf and did most of the starter quests, I got the basics but it wasn't until I got into Diplomacy that I felt like a DE and got into the mind of the culture and society of the DEs.

They need to build more lore into the main quests.

Since you are a fan of Vanguard, I'll give you a little help and say something nice about your game of choice. During beta, I did find the gnome newbie area, Mekalia (sp?), particularly impressive and fun.

Like WoW, I did have fun in this area for levels 1-5.
