The problem with that statement is that the original isn't a "problem". The only problem is people "reacting" to what they PERCEIVE as a problem.


A little match is easy to ignore or blow out, but when it sets the whole fucking house on fire, then yeah. The fire is a bigger problem.

Hey, this is a little off topic but not really. I was browsing SV's site and I came across this (I hadn't seen it before) and I was just struck by how relevant it was to this thread, and this forum in general.

Do not insult other board members in reference to their posts. Specifically, do not call other board members "trolls," even if they demonstrate evidence of such. That is a call that should be left up to moderators. You should, however, report the person so that the moderators are aware of the issue.

This should not have to be said. A post stating that the above poster is a troll is, itself, a form of trolling and is as much a violation of the Post Content rule as simply being disrespectful.

As moderators, we have a tolerance for diversity in opinions that may or may not match your tolerance. We attempt to error on the side of freedom, but we do what we can to allow you to make your own choice. You may add the user to your ignore list, for example.

One thing we will not tolerate, however, is blatant and apparent disrespect directly toward other board members.

I wanted to address the reason for this, since it may seem that we're adding more rules against "the good guys" and not against "the bad guys."

We recognized a trend occuring whereby the *responses* to threads were more vicious than the original posts. Granted there have been some pretty bummed out people posting about their bad experiences of late, but the replies were even worse.

To put a leash on the back-and-forth biting, we've created a rule that applies both ways.

So essentially, this new rule can be read: "Leave the original venomous posts alone and don't add fuel to the fire.

Otherwise you're just as guilty as the person who started the fire to begin with."

So don't respond to the attempt to derail and it won't be an issue. Same for the "neverending spam posts," which is being totally blown out of proportion.

Also, so what if someone posts something false as fact? They'll be corrected one way or another (as Nino did). At least the clarity of misinformation is something worthwhile to read.

As you can see by my post count and join date, I've not been around here the longest. I have visited this site pretty much daily since discovering it in early 2006 though.

I'd like to know what Ut has posted that is a flat out lie or false. Sure, he can come across as some crazy person, but looking back at a few things, he may be right on many accounts.

It's the people who don't agree with him and can't stop their fingers from lashing out at him that are a huge problem around here, I think.

That's how I see things anyhow.
