I so doubt this has anything to do with double exp weekends. Hell my bet is they took a look at their sub base and went "Shit 100k people are going to be renewing this weekend if they don't CANCEL!!!! DOUBLE EXP TIME!!" Guess I'm just a pessimist.

I've been to three different stores in the past month on half a dozen occasions for other purchases, and would probably be playing VG right now if it had been available for an impulse purchase, but it's never been in stock. Not that I've asked a sales rep, it's just not visible on the shelves. Perhaps it's simply buried beneath the 10,000 TBC boxes.

Indeed. I was at Best Buy this past weekend to get a new monitor and browsed the pc games section and there was not a single copy of Vanguard to be found. Perhaps they all sold out ???

Hell, it pulled me from eq1 after 6 years.
I personally had way more fun in EQ1 than i ever had in VG. VG is just more of the same, nothing special. SoE obviously overestimated VGs success.

I bet Best Buy didnt sell out, they just havent ordered more, because it took them so long to sell what they had. At a Frys Electronics down the street, theres still about 15 Pre Order Boxes and 20 Games still sitting on the shelves.

When did Blizzard nerf and break the shit out of classes whilst ignoring the already implemented broken skills? I must have missed that bit. Yes they handed out freebies for busted servers and I can remember people screaming to high hell about how pathetic their DB structure was over looting issues and the like, how they should have anticipated demand based on the same issues happening in Open Beta.

Best Buy bought Future Shop a few years back, so maybe that's got somethign to do with it. There's a couple of those shitholes around, as well, but something about them repels me, so I have no idea if that's the case there as well.

This man speaks truth.

They need to figure out how to balance these three things:
1. a HUGE, absolutely massive, game world,
2. low/medium server populations, especially in newbie zones,
and
3. needing a find a group to advance, or rather, discouraging soloing (which they seem to be doing...)

Imagine The Barrens with 1/10th the quests, 1/10th the mobs, and circa 5-10 people in it. That's how Vanguard feels most of the time, at least to me.

Well no shit, but after 6 years of the same game, same graphics. It tends to get a little old. I wont ever have fun like i did in EQ from now til i die. I know this. I am not blind to that. VG to me is a mixture of EQ1 and WoW, thats what i like about it. I hated the fact that in WoW i was pretty much on my own til level 60, it bored me til no end, even with fast leveling. I just couldnt do it anymore. With VG, i am playing with alot of my friends, we are grouping and doing dungeons having a blast. For me, its well worth it.

I really dont care what SOE over or underestimated. As long as i am having fun, thats all that matters. am i right?

No.

If you and your friends are having a blast but noone else is, Sigil is not going to keep the game afloat for your group.

The Station Pass would mitigate this slightly, though...if SOE hadn't shot themselves in the foot with the unwise price increase.

Funny, I don't recall that. I recall people being pretty angry over all the early problems, not a bunch of people touting their virtues.

Because they came to realize this was a selling point to almost no one. It was a very minor sect of players that wanted this. The lions share hated the slow EXP curve and alot quit over it.

Simple economics. Slow EXP curve, they retained a few hardcore players, lost alot of the fresh new faces they need to pay the bills, back to EQ2 and WOW. Faster EXP curve = lose a few hardcore players, gain back alot of the people who bailed out after 2 weeks, lights stay on in the office and paychecks dont bounce.

EQ is still SOE's biggest single game (or was, the last time SirBruce updated his charts). Now, if you'd said Planetside....

Also: Hey, I was right about slow xp curve = crappy subs. Who'da thunk it?
