EVE is the only MMOG I've seen to date that is actually being treated like an MMOG should be, as in a simulation where the world keeps growing with actual new functionality every year - WITHOUT leaving behind the old functionality/world.

Pretty much every other one doesn't add anything interesting or new other than "content", which amounts to identical rehashed mechanics with different textures and models that just obsoletes the old "content". Hi2u WoW.

On the other hand, other MMOs at least try to have this thing called 'balance,' which EVE does not. :P

That's probably because putting balance above all is boring. And I don't really see much of anything in EVE that is particularly unbalanced compared to other games. They have cycles of one ship type/skill being overpowered then being nerfed just like every other MMO does.

"Balance" is an FPS with only 1 class to choose from. Having a "role" is far more paramount.

Making each class/role fun and fulfiling to play is what the Good Devs' strive to accomplish.

I wasn't picking sides in the argument. Just making a statement. Honestly I agree, balance isn't all its cracked up to be. If you make all choices equally good, theres less to seperate the knowledgable and resourceful players from the others.

the problem is trying too hard to balance all aspects instead of having differing abilities with natrually different imbalances

Class X solos too good, Class Y can't solo as good as Class Z, Class W Can't do quest XYZ and class Y can... etc, etc...

Imbalances are actually good as long as they have something they are able to contribute

It's also basically impossible to make all choices equally good, especially in a game like EVE which has such a huge number of character/ship development choices, and trying to make them equally good inevitably ends up in you making them more homogeneous.

(as an aside, this is one of the things that I rarely see cited as being a powerful advantage of being an old player in EVE, which is that you're trained to fly so many different things that it's a lot easier to roll with the current fotm and to fly the right ship for whatever your current situation demands).

What exactly is imbalanced in Eve? You claim eve doesn't even bother to try to have balance, so surely you can list some examples?

Wealth is imbalanced. PVPers have none and always need to spend it in ships and fittings. Manufacturers often have lots and nothing to buy other than the next blueprint.

EVE is pretty well balanced imo.. sure compared to other mmos the ship:ship balance isnt good but the character balance is good... i quit wow because playing a rogue was really fucking gay. If tomorow ccp nerfed the megathron, which is the primary ship i fly and the one i like most, i wouldnt quit, i would just fly something else and still be useful... that imo is the beauty of EVEs balance.

In wow if they fuckup and make a class shitty or boring to play those players have to quit or reroll and start from scratch. In EVE you just have to train for a new ship type.. and most of the time you dont even need to train since most characters can fly a ton of different ships even if they are new chars.

I agree EVE is evolving like an mmo should evolve, they dont make old shit useless when they add new stuff, and the result is after 3 years we have content overflowing to the point where its hard to even name all the things you could do let alone actually do them... the beauty of diverging content paths instead of linear ones like level based mmos.

Theres a few big things, like Minmatar are pretty much just awful. Also the devs have themselves said that large blobs versus many smaller fleets is not at all near the type of balance they want it to be at.
