The thing I am most excited about are the game's monthly updates. If Turbine can deliver updates of the same quality and detail that they achieved in Asheron's Call 1, we will have a great deal to look forward to.

For those that may have missed AC1, here's a write up IGN did on the game's first monthly update, which Turbine called Sudden Season. This event launched in December 1999.... I find it more than a little sad that no MMO since has been nearly as dynamic as this.

Captains are pretty fun too. You switch roles a lot, kinda like a Druid in WoW. Personal DPS is pretty meh, but you bring good group buffs, single target healing, and the ability to completely save the party from a wipe with a 15second ability that prevents you from being dropped below 1hp, and another ability that lets you intercept all attacks on your party for a short duration. And an in-combat rez.

They also have the only in-combat runspeed buff I've been able to find.

They aren't as good of tanks as the pure tank, but they stand up to a reasonable beating, and the herald makes some solo encounters doable that otherwise wouldn't be (Oh, good sir herald, you're going to go run over there and distract that mob for 15seconds while I finish this one, thankyou for your brave sacrifice

)

Oh no, this is terrible news. I can't believe those bastards have split up the bard class from it's defining role of uber runspeed. Do I follow the run speed, or stick with bard? Argh!

And yes I'm going to call the minstrel "bard" every time I reference it. So there.

Eh, while I was a bard in EQ I think minstrel is more appropriate for LotRO. Especially since Bard is an actually character who played an important role in The Hobbit. Bard was probably more of a hunter I guess than a minstrel

What are the mechanics of Minstrels' feign death like?

It's one of those skills that could pretty easily be overpowered or completely worthless, depending on how well it works and how often you're able to use it.

It's just the pre-order people's characters that persist to launch right? Everyone else has their 15s wiped at retail launch, right?

Right, but I assume you could pre-order any time before the 24th and upgrade your account to 'Founder' status.

I believe I came across a post on the forums that says you have to register a pre-order key before the 6th to get Founder status, so actually you have a week.

Big deal, it's not a race. Forget about leveling, does anyone know if how well you can kite in this game? I'm going to get as many rangers as I can together to try and lure a dragon to Bree.
