One of the animations that made me chuckle was sleeping mobs. I was in a cave near my newbie starting area; I ducked around a corner and one of those needle-beak mobs was on the ground snoozing.

On an unrelated note, I also think its cool how some mobs don't just auto-agro on you. Some will 'threaten to attack' or some such, and if you stand there for a few more seconds, THEN they attack. This is refreshing from the standard binary 'agro/non-agro' system of past games.

I think this could really be taken a step further, such as mobs or NPCs attacking you if you are carrying certain items, etc. Imagine having stacks of food in your inventory and then wandering past a wild bear. hmm..

You know, I never realized that, but did notice aggro mobs not attacking me at certain times. That is a cool idea.

Second thing. Maybe I missed it, but the game really needs a UI scale option. I hate big clunky UI's. All I want on my screen is my target, my health bars, the minimap and my hotkeys without all the fancy framing.

I, too, noticed this. It happens mostly with animals, but it's a very nice touch to have some boar glare at you and wait to see if you're really threatening it.

Anyone know if the UI is moddable to the extant of WoW and such?

That's funny that they still have "spongy" movement. I remember that being a real pain in the ass back in AC2. Pretty sure it was prevalent in my little time in DDO too; I guess someone at Turbine just has it in his mind that people can't go from "stand" to "run" instantly.

and ^^^ wtflol at 3 posts within the same minute.

Yeah, the base of the engine is the same as the one in DDO, and probably AC2 as well. Movement is alot like it was in DDO. It's fine when you are used to it, I am probably just too used to the quick response of WoW. By the time I decided to stop playing closed beta last night (which ends today), I didn't even notice it.

The UI thing is something else I didn't like. I don't know how moddable it will be, but I could never find a UI scale option. It wasn't too big for me, the bottom bar was just too small. It is pretty customizable, you can open up the layout interface and move every single window.

P.S. - I hate you guys. Now I'll probably have to pre-order this game. I was hoping that the LoTR fanboy in my wouldn't creep out, but it has...

Thanks for posting that info about the music system. I was invited to the LOTRO alpha I believe and didn't give it the time of day(maybe an hour). I was too locked into Vanguard to think about any other games back then.

Now that I've been playing Vanguard, and known something was missing, I'm looking at other options. I don't know if LOTRO will be it, but that music system is something I'd really like to try out.

Here's a partial panorama of Bree I made and the Bree map so you can see where I'm standing. You can't really see the other side of Bree but it'll give you an idea of the size.

I know that the content won't last as long as I'd like at release but I'm hoping that Turbine releases expansions/patched content frequently enough to keep me involved. I enjoy having the story heavily involved with the quest lines and that even the side quests make you feel like you're in a world in turmoil. I also love the art and the hand tailored feel and think they did a great job with making a seamless world still have dramatic themes for areas.

There are some things I don't care for but they're minimal enough for me that I'll still enjoy the game.

As will most of my WoW guild

I'll likely join them at least until Tabula Rasa comes out later this year. I really enjoyed the time I had in beta, but i'm more in the mood for a sci-fi shooter at this point. Been goofing around with my AO account for the past couple weeks, but logged into LoTRo for a couple hours. At this moment, the GMs have wraiths invading the Shire, and once they finish there, they're moving the event to Staddle. Theres even a seemingly reliable rumor that there will be GMs as Nazgul running around in random areas

Same here...might as well get a feel for if I want to play or not long-term. I can always cancel otherwise. Interestingly it was the music clips from their site that convinced me...very nicely done.
