In 3 months you'd be in a Battleship in a 0.0 fleet.
In 6 months you'd have a full Tech 2 fit BS.
In a year you'd be in a capital ship.
But most importantly, you should have fun during getting to that point.

Worst thing I ever did was trying to do the PvE stuff, it gets boring so quickly and made me quit like 2x.
Best thing I did was buying a bunch of gametimecards, to avoid even more of the boring PvE ratting
Most important thing, get into a corp and in lowsec or 0.0
Try to avoid corps that have many blue standings.

Is there anything I can bank on holding my interest until joining a good fleet? From what I can remember, all I did (or could figure out how to do) was mine and do missions. After awhile I just didn't know what to do next and quit.

Factional warfare maybe. Join a factional warfare pvp corp and go shoot people in other factions.

You could make brand new character with a plan to specialize in one thing and get there at some point. However, with all of the learnings, shield/armor/cap, gunnery, missiles, drones... or industry, production, etc to get to at least 4.. you might be waiting a few months to get a basic skill structure down to be functional. Until then you will be not much more than a kamakazie fly with a warp disrupter.

I were driven to play EVE right now from scratch, but had prior experience with the game as to know what I wanted, I would probably spend like $100-200, buy gametime cards, sell gametime cards for isk on the EVE forums, and buy a several year old character on the EVE forums for isk. You can max out learning skills and get +5 implants, but your skillset is still limited by time. Even a year's worth of skills would be decent, but from scratch right now would be frustrating.

If I was dead set on making my own character, I would get a few basic skills done so I could fly a frigate and complete level 1 or 2 missions, then start learning skills. While waiting for learning skills I would either find a way to make some money or find some friends to help out (lots of newbie corps around), or I would play another game until they completed. You may not be in a T2 fitted ship anytime soon, but you can still mess around and learn and talk to people.

EVE is a lot of fun and has plenty of avenues to chase. Its the only game with some decent risk/reward left that is somewhat mainstream in todays MMO market. Those fixed training times are just a curse and a blessing.



Edit: I agree with the faction warfare advice. I haven't tried much of it yet myself, but it seems like PUG pvp and easy to get into no matter what you can fly. Just make sure you can get to the point where you can afford to replace your ships, even if it is only T1 frigates.

The Tri board is a mess currently though, some bug is fitting Aeons for example in the highslots of ships
Karb was fixing it last night, but afaik a bunch of mails been lost.

Actually the Navy Omen was converted by CCP from a Navy Aug some time ago.

And wasting isk, well what else should I do with it.
Some people waste it by buying overrated Moms.
And I already got more caps then some corps have.

All my towers were saved anyway. Today was a good day

The whole NC has joined the fun now, except Iron who are riding bikes in Venal after they lost all their space.

Last night we blew up some NC pos in TVN and reinforced some more.
Their numbers have gone down from 350-450 a night to about 250'ish now on a daily basis.
And that's with all of them here now, which wasn't the case before.
Ours gone up from 100 to 150 now with like nearly 90% of the folks that are logged in that are in fleet.
Pretty damn proud of the dedication the Tri folks have shown sofar.
Tbh not what I expected during a prolonged campaign.
Many of them stayed online this week till early in the morning.

Sofar about 200 bil in damages have been done in a month.
Good time to recap and celebrate.

I died (salvat0re) to the last DD from my old CEO Deki / Vuk Lau.
Warped in a hurry to a random planet, which happened to be the one deki landed next too also

Keep the bitter tears coming.
We're killing cap ships while dodging DD's all day, even tripple ones.
Something your awesome RSF blob buddies haven't been able to do.

We are actually using titans as they were mean to be.
For bringing down their numbers so we are able to fight them on more "normal" terms, instead of the 450 vs 130 they brought last week.

It's damn hilarious to see them jump in whole fleets again and again while we go through gates 5 at a time without being attacked or DD'ed.
Really clever guys those NC folks.

So keep your bitter tears about the current irrelevance of your alliances coming,
maybe if you NAP the whole of eve next time, you can try and bring BoB down properly.
That might get you some attention again.
