| I've played wow, I've played VG...and WoW still looks better to me because it has personality. VG, to me, is just a bunch of effects thrown on crappy models with even more crappy animations. |

| Since about the time when it came out...having a fairly distinctive art style helps WoW a lot. Vanguard's problem is that instead of being stylized, it tends to go for full realism and suffers from the "uncanny valley" problem where all the models look close to realistic, but have what many people call the mannequin look (almost real, but not quite, which makes them rather disconcerting). Also, the plastic looking sheen on everything doesn't help.

prior to new animations being worked in... as it stands though it doesn't often hit the uncanny valley for me. Faces, I guess, are the big key to the uncanny valley. For good or bad, I don't really notice the faces in Vanguard. I do think the emphasis on realism helps the environment a great deal though. In wow, I appreciated some of the scenery, but usually in the same respect one might be particularly impressed with the background in a certain scene of an anime or disney animation. It's impressive, just not breath-taking. VG, on the other hand, has had more than a handful of truly breath-taking moments for me. Personal preference is all, I suppose. | |

+13 Internets | Screenshots look like ass. Running around the wood elf city with full AA and everything on the highest setting I still get 15-20fps on my X850 Pro. Only 1gig of ram and an AMD64 running at 2.4ghz. The models look really good in-game and the environments are freaking spectacular. Now, running with those options enabled in most places would get me killed with my hardware setup. The performance isn't *that* bad. We have to move ahead at one point or another, that goes for end-user hardware just as much as developer graphics. I think the main problem people are experiencing with VG is that it's not just a heavily graphics taxing game, or a beefy memory hog (ala WoW), but it pushes your entire system to the limit. Even if you upgrade your mediocre system, like mine, with an 8800GTX the game will still only play decently. It really is a game that forces some people to upgrade, but they feel like that's a bad thing. Video games are the biggest factor when it comes to designing new PC hardware, and if the software doesn't improve there's no reason for the hardware to improve, and you're doing a disservice to the video game industry and the PC industry by whining and complaining about improved graphics and how they perform so badly on your mediocre machines. I use a mediocre machine, and no the game doesn't get 40fps like I can get in WoW, but it also has wayyy more potential in the graphics department. |

| Are you really surprised? Seems every time a VG thread is started the regular band of tards always come out. I also took FU's comments the same as Vynde but as I sat here and thought about it he really hasn't said all that much about VG. *shrugs* The reason why we are all so sensitive is cause we have had to endure fucktards like Neric, Zhen, and Itzena in every fucking thread about VG over and over again and let's not even get started on the whole Ut saga for months here. Just gets old and a lot of us are sick and fucking tired of it. |
