Burning Crusade Music...what's your opinion?

I really love the new intro theme music, but a lot of the newer tracks, while sounding good somehow doesn't sound as "memorable" as a lot of the older stuff (SW, TB, etc). Assuming you're playing with the music on (I did, just to get an impression, I tend to switch back and forth between game music and MP3s), what do you think of the soundtrack for the Burning Crusade? Better, worse, different? Would you rather have Jason Hayes (original WoW composer) back, or do you think the new music's a change for the better?

I really like it. I've listened to the CD quite a bit as well. I think they did a damn fine job with most of it.

I enjoy the return of Diablo music. It's usually altered, but the themes are still there. Think the most obvious to me was at Ruuan Weald in Blade's Edge.

I've had music turned off for so long, I didn't even think about it. A couple of weeks ago, I apparently accidentally turned the music on somehow, and went into an AV game.

It took me a while to figure out why music was playing, as I completely forgot the game even had music. Now that you mention it, I'll turn it back on.

Compositionally it's nothing special but it's fine for video game music that you have to hear hundreds of times.

as in, not annoying

As for the regular background music, I actually like the new music better than Jason Hayes' original tracks. The originals were good, and memorable, but too memorable. They got annoying really really fast. The new stuff hasn't annoyed me yet. It could just be I haven't heard it enough yet, or because they seem to have a lot more tracks per area.

But the special moment music is really fantastic in TBC. The login screen, some of the quest camps/towns, instances, etc. And holy crap, the music for Caverns of Time is freakin sweet. The first instance, where you rescue Thrall, is one huge scripted event, and the music fits in perfectly with what's going on. And there are at least 2 orchestrated versions of Warcraft II tracks. Many times I was literally just standing there listening to the music in awe, while Thrall or party members were getting killed.

Not enough variety. I would categorize most of it as either "dreary" or "soothing". The only reasonbly upbeat track that comes to mind is Old Hillsbrad.

I thought the music was fantastic, one of the best aspects of the expansion imo. The orchestration is much better than the original.

Honestly I was quite disappointed with the whole of the WOW soundtrack, especially coming off great gaming soundtracks from War2 and War3. Some of the WOW songs are solid, but just not long enough (the Undercity theme for example).

When I'm not busy on vent and am blasting music, I do like a nice playlist with a mix of older warcraft mp3s, some LOTR movie music, and a few selections from various FF games. When I'm feeling less RPG-nerdy, I like to put on some NFL Films music (the stuff you here on any NFL.com commercial, or watching old NFL films shows on ESPN, NFLnetwork etc).

I also heard a track from Starcraft (or at least themes from it) while questing in the Hellfire Peninsula.

I must say one of my favorite parts about the Bloodelf starting area was the music in around eversong forest and such. Other than that I haven't really been any where new to hear a lot of the newer music, as i'm still fairly low level.

I have never played a MMO with the music on except Final Fantasy XI. I usually listen to Sirius or Animenfo Radio when I'm playing a MMO.

I really liked the music in TBC. The Draeni n00b music reminds me of BSG, so I like it for that fact alone ;p The BE music is nice too (especially the vocal). The Mount Hyjal track is cool also, especially the first part of it where it starts with that "chanting" that builds up then it launches into this drum thumping epic music that feels like it's trying to pump you up...which is fitting considering it's supposed to be a pretty damned epic raid encounter. In general I like most of the CoT themes. Kudos for the old school WC music during Thrall at parts...made me want to load up DOTA hehe ;p
