I have no idea who actually owns the Vanguard IP, probably still Sigil (which would be unusual, most times the publishers do, but they had plenty of seed funding of their own and they're a unique case). As for what EQ's first month of sales were upon release, I guarantee it was south of 100k, easily. For some reason 70k jumps out in my mind, but I really have no idea. It took EQ until at least Kunark, maybe even Velious, before it was breaking 400k people. | |

+65 Internets | I disagree on the reviews part. EQ itself got fairly poor reviews on release, and most reviews were very critical of it's initial stability problems (the first week was quite a disaster, if I remember right). Word of mouth though will count for a lot. But word of mouth isn't necessarily reflected by review scores. I can guarantee most review sites will have shit out a review by the middle of next week, based on their level 1-20 experience, and will subsequently be useless for gauging the staying potential of the game. |

+9 Internets | Surprised to see all the praise as when I played Beta, it ran like crap and was uninspiring. Might have to give it a whirl in a few months when the BC thrill starts to subside. Anyone a hardcore crafter? How is it? I know it's super early, but do you think there will be a real market that will enable you to do only craft and sell? When I tried crafting, it was interesting but annoying (too many critical events, couldn't figure out how to use tools that were not in my tool belt but in my inventory, etc.) At higher levels, do you specialize further? If I played Vanguard, it would most likely be just to craft, as that is the one area I feel WoW lacks sorely. |

| Anyone know of a site where you can purchase SOE game time cards using paypal? Or does anyone know if there will be separate time cards for Vanguard. Edit: Nevermind, just got a response from Shattered Crystal letting me know they'll be carrying them soon. It looks like Vanguard will be included in SOE's universal game cards rather than having their own.

+4 Internets | I'm willing to give the game another try. Was in beta for over a year and the game ran poorly on my machine. It did get better as time went on tho. Since there's comments on how much improvement the performance has been from beta to retail. That peaked my interest. Unfortunally, I didnt get a chance to log in that final week or so before beta was up as I would have loved to see if there really was an improvement. Well if nothing else, hopefully they'll have a trial/demo of it where I can install the retail and give it a run for a few days and see for myself. If it truely is better and runs well, I wouldn't mind putting up an all access for the games then. Every MMO has some limited trial or at least buddy keys. It makes good business sense if they believe their game is ready and good enough to attract new and potential customers. |

+3 Internets | Looking at Bestbuy.com, 2 locations in Vegas have the Collectors Edition available .... /fidget. Just kicks my machine's ass to try and play it with any level of reasonable quality (per the last day of beta) and yet still tempting to pick up. |

| I really don't think the numbers will be that high at all. I've been playing for 3 days and it reminds me a lot of Horizons. Good idea...badly implemented. I went to cancel today because i'm bored as shit playing it and one, or maybe two, people in the lesser giant starting area (on Shildreth), only to find out that they have no record of me ever subscribing in the first place. I check the forums ( 5 of 10 affiliate sites and find out a BUNCH of people are having the same issue). Ah well, back to EQ2 for at least another six months, maybe Conan will be descent...maybe. |
