EQMac is proof that sometimes it's okay to get stuck in Time.

Here's a better question. If you HAD gotten that FS Scimi back, would that have turned you into a stupid, careless person? You probably still wouldn't have made that mistake again.
He wouldn't of turned into a careless stupid person, but if you did lose it, it would make you think twice each time you press the sell button. GM's shouldn't be there to babysit your dumb mistakes. They should be there to help with game issues to do bugs or non-player mistakes.

It could also make someone think twice about paying for a game that has zero service and makes no attempt to keep it's customers happy beyond saying 'here is stuff, deal with and don't bother us if something goes wrong'.

His phrasing made it sound like his friend was having trouble with the grind in WoW.

Having played VG as recently as open beta, I can say for sure that there is more grind associated with VG than there is with WoW, and if someone couldn't handle WoW's grind, VG's would kill them

He later clarified his 'grind' comment, making my comment superfluous.

Does anyone really say, "Well I just fucking made a stupid mistake and fucked myself. The GMs won't help me, so I'm not paying for this game!" Sounds like someone is not getting their way and taking their ball home with them. Your statement would be correct if you lost equipment due to a game bug or some other issue that wasn't your fault. GM's are not there to baby sit you for being careless. WOW did it for you, good for them. I think thats above and beyond.

Vanguard is currently #36 in the Amazon PC games charts (which includes some hardware items) down from #6 a couple of weeks ago.

Which is exactly what it's all about, isn't it? WoW has server issues and people can't play for half a day, so they get a full free day of playtime added to their account. Things like that are just as, if not more, important to consumers than shiny graphics and 'potential'.

You want to know why WoW has 8 million+ people playing and VG will have 200k? It isn't because one looks like a 'saturday morning cartoon'.

its because its fun, easy to solo if youre low on time, and there arent really any penalties.

however in my experience with wow, they're a bunch of assholes that i dont want to give money to. it differs for everyone

I never understood why this upsets people. WoW is what, $15 a month? So roughly 50 cents a day? And if you cant play for half a day, your losing 25 cents. Losing 25 cents seriously pisses people off in the game?! If your that strapped for cash, you shouldnt even be playing WoW.

Edit: I'm a math moron.

It's not the money, it's the principle.

And I'm not sure where you are from, but here in America months are about 30 days long, not 7. Bah, you fixed it.

You are new around here aren't you 06'er?

Funny you mention wow and assholes, yet fail to mention SOE and assholes.

I love newbies.

Well SOE and Blizzard have different points of view. But I know for a fact that Blizzard won't give you back twice an item you lost because you made a mistake. The GMs have that 'guideline' where they basically give you a joker you can use once.

EQ did that too, sometimes, but it was up to the GM (and I do mean GM, not Guides). Since after a while they decided to have a pool of GM with no specific server under their care (which was the worst mistake SOE ever made on the customer service topic), I guess the GMs decided it's not worth login on, say, Innoruuk just to reimburse a FS Scimitar, three Mith Swords and one GBS.

Anyway, my point stand. I don't think players and entitled to item reimbursement if they lost the item because they made a mistake, because I really think it doesn't make them more careful later on.
