Potential problems for people with multiple characters who aren't playing when the server split happens.

Hopefully they give you atleast 2 weeks to choose.

I know from logging into beta that you do not have to choose right away and that you have up to a specific date before it chooses for you.

Why can't Humans just betray to the Horde all to themselves? Humans should be neutral and can join either side. I think it would help to even out the sides. It's not a cure all fix but it would cut down on the imbalance a little bit. Humans and Blood Elves on the Horde side would balance things out better.

I'd be pissed if they gave us names like :

Quote:
Antonidas
Nazgrel
Nordrassil
Rivendare
Shandris
Tortheldrin
which are the names of the last 6 servers they opened.

Hmm, let's see, The Lich King, a Dreadlord, or some random NPCs or guys we farm... tough choice.

They're running out of sweet names.

Lots of names left to steal, they have barely begun to use many of the geographical places (zones) in the game.

The PR answer is to preserve some of the game's lore.

The real answer is I want WotF and Devouring Plague when I turn against the Alliance retards.

I guess it is a necessary evil, but it would suck to lose friends that arent actively playing. It is always nice when an old friend "comes back," even if its just for a while to mess around.

They didn't answered the obvious question: what if a vast majority of players on a soon-to-be-splitted server choose the same new server?

It happened before on EQ if I remembered well.

Um, yes they did answer that question:

Does providing my realm preference guarantee my destination?

We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s realm preference, but if manual realm selections result in one of the two new realms being overpopulated, we may need to move some of the population to a different realm.

They won't let them, it's in the FAQ. You only get a suggestion of what server you want to go to with no guarantees you'll go there save for if you're in a guild. Seems perfectly fine to me, except for the fact that Alliance can suck my balls off for all I give a shit.

Horde should have an entirely seperate queue to get into servers. Don't ask me how to accomplish that, but I'm sure someone smarter than me can come up with a fairly simple solution. Splitting a server based off of total population is asinine at best, since WoWCensus has some servers boasting over like 18k Alliance and just under 3k Horde. That's horse shit. Wait. Did I mention to Fuck Alliance?

I kind of like this idea...yet I still have questions. First off, if they can pull something so technically difficult, why the hell can't they cut off people from rolling Alliance toons on Alliance-populated servers? Make some folks roll horde? Better yet, do a game-wide population re-balancing, in an effort to balance A:H ratios game-wide?

Just rambling...

Cool idea though, I'm glad they're testing it out.

Now that both sides have Paladin/Shaman, betrayal quests are just a matter of flipping some faction's, I am sure they have thought about it and are saving it for some kind of PR emergency.

If they do it, it would be interesting if there was a server population one-way gate, people could only betray if there was a certain balance threshold.

I would wager that at this point, a large plurality of new players are rolling up to game with friends. I don't know about you, but I'd choke a bitch if the game wouldn't let me play with my friends because of faction balance.

Betrayal quests along with 'bonuses' for the underdog side would probably go a long way to fixing the issue. A bonus to honor and faction gain rates I imagine would be enough to get a large amount of people to switch, not to mention the allure of faster BG queue times.

Vhex I like the idea of bonuses for under-populated side. Perhaps more coin drops or faster xp gain...I know I'd roll a horde character on a server with such incentives.
