| Hit the K button. It brings up a window. You can spend points every level to earn new skills. Yes it isn't 1001 different "spells" but I use the shit out of some Shrapnel Strike. Not going to be buying TR but I see a market for it. |

Of course autoattack is in WoW, EQ, etc, but the unlocking of new abilities and using them with increasing, not decreasing or tangential, frequency is tantamount to building up user retention and empathy to your identity or role. They also shouldn't entirely replace everything previous to that, as some builds have the plague of having. In more technically accurate terms, the fat kid was on the autoattack side of the teeter-totter in TR. For EQ2, he moves over to the lots of buttons to push side. Either way, you're somewhat stuck in a rut. | |

+2 Internets | Funny thing is I find myself redoing clones/builds with less abilities (even using the MMO style key layout instead of the FPS). I think the current one I'm using has Rage and Carpet bombing, I don't even put points in the rest of them as I don't find a need. I don't like their skill trees, its like a bastard child of wow's talent system without the ability to respec. Yea you can clone, but even that could be done better. Still fun blowing shit up and since the last patch; I find myself having to use more strategy and tactics in instances. Not quite the 'God' soldier anymore. |

| TR's combat seems fine considering its a Sci-Fi game that uses guns to kill shit. Sure you get some abilities, and in truth they seem pretty effective, but it is the gun you use that makes the difference. Maybe those who complain about the dryness of TR's combat are just too used to button mashing from other games. So far, combat has come down to knowing what damage type works best against certain mobs, making sure you're at the best range for your weapon. I'm enjoying the game right now, but I'm a soloer that doesn't like to be required to group to get stuff done, though I don't mind grouping up. The quests are doing a good job of taking me on a tour of the gameworld...and really, I just like blowing stuff up. ;p |

| I just wish there was more variety in the moment to moment destruction. I'd like to have to toss bombs and roll/jump around, maybe even melee the guy that made it to me instead of using my shotgun. I think its strange that its both quicker and safer to pack my current weapon then unpack and fire my shotgun when a mob has become too close than to roll to the side and judo chop/bap him with my gun stock. If I did decided to attack my opponent via melee it would be the least liquid maneuver I could perform as melee locks your character into an animation of movements when you only hit the target once. That is a whole seperate level of dumb. The gameplay is decent, if monotonous. I think the biggest issue TR has is the class system and character development entirely. I hate the skills and attributes. Attributes are nearly worthless and skills ought to be branching rather than "don't spend dick on X, its worthless in Z levels". You shouldn't regret choices you made to benefit you at lower levels. You should be able to expand upon those choices to develop that playstyle. Instead the tier system plays games with you by changing your role and methods abruptly.

| Yes, I can. Like I can melee with my hunter and moonfire spam things dead with my druid. Cost:effect is way off on consumables like bombs, and in addition to untrained melee not matching up to firearms 5 shotgun/pistol I already mentioned the animation was the prohibitive aspect. I don't have an issue with what can be done, at the moment. I have an issue with what must be done and that is next to nothing.

| I guess it's pretty telling that I finally got some e-mail invitation to join this beta and wasn't even remotely thrilled. I watched some YouTube videos, etc., and it looks like - in typically SoE fashion - they're spending more cash on Marketing (remember that huge bunch of bullshit "extra $2 for this crap" you had to click past when registering EQ2 three years ago?) than they did on actually developing the game. Some massive bash at Lord British's place, etc., all looked pretty big-bucks. Anybody want to convince this latest round of beta invites that it's even worth DL'ing (3-4 hours)? NC-Soft could use me as a marketing guinea pig, since I'm usually an instant sale on any new MMORPG that comes out, yet have pretty close to zero interest in this game (and would normally be going nutty over a new sci-fi MMORPG). |

| It's a fun game Grumpy, it just doesn't stick with you for too long. For free, its definitely worth it. I think it would be more appreciated if it was sold like Guild Wars.

| When i see this game and then see the date, omg its 2008 already, i get the feeling all the good programmers are kidnapped somewhere writing code for the government for some top secret project while they replaced the game makers with monkeys so nobody would notice. Wtf is this lately? |

+21 Internets | Taken from main forums: WARNING: Don't let your clan hit 200 characters -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apprently last night we had hit 200 characters. This is mostly due to people like Zald who had like 10 clones besides his main. When we tried to invite a new recruit it wouldn't let us. Then we remembered reading something about a cap of 200 characters. We knew we were close so we though, oh ok we'll boot some clones. Started to kick one of the clones since Zald didn't need to many, then BLAMO we crash hardcore. Almost everyone in the clan crashes with inernal error and wehn we log back in "Loading clan info...". Upon loging in there is no Browncoats clan. Suffice to say the issue has been escalated to senior staff to resolve, but for those who are in growing clans. Be careful. Hopefully this is an oddity, but until there's some kind of patch stating a resolution to the 200 character limit issue, I'm not going to let the clan get over 190 characters. I would advise the same to others. Now considering you get free alts how did they not think this part through. |
