| My friend's cousin in Slovakia heard from his half-sister's boyfriend that it was pretty cool so far -- but the boyfriend is, apparently, so sick of fantasy MMOs that I would wager he would like anything that is sci-fi.

| Some random hobo I encountered on the streets told me that it's a damned pretty game with unique combat. Then he proceeded to throw stray cats at people.

| Reports I hear say that the combat is ripped straight out of Auto Assault. Meaning, you just need to get your targeting recticle near a person and it will lock on and you just hold down your left mouse button to "auto attack". Missions are standard fare quests that you find in any MMO. Really, it is nothing unique and is just like any other fantasy MMO with guns instead of swords. |

| I don't mind the way targeting works, no one here expected a completely twitch-centric MMO. That video is solid, really looking forward to this game, because I think it'll be the first to implement some fresh and original gameplay mechanisms. |

I also understand that the mission system is quite a bit more intricate than "standard fare". Like lower level players, while unable to partake in the same objectives as a higher level player in the same mission, can have thier own set of objectives which have some sort of effect on the higher level players objective. While I wouldn't say this game is going to be overly unique, I wouldn't say its "just like any other fantasy mmo" either.

+3 Internets | A point for anyone who didn't watch the vid linked earlier in the thread. Garriot says the game is extremely solo friendly. He spends most of his time in games and in this one soloing. It showed a party quest, but a guy was doing it solo, with some NPC 'team mates' which he had picked up from a different quest planted for this very purpose, just before doing it. The vid didn't really appeal to me in game terms. I'm well ready for a decent sci-fi MMORPG, but somehow I don't like the auto targetting reticule. The game is progressive, in terms of how important terrain is etc, but much of that is unseen. We all bitch about wanting new stuff, but I guarantee if some of the basic mechanics change too much it will piss most folk off. There was a lot I liked about Anarchy Online - the mission system, the class system etc. I need some of them hooks to be in TR if its going to be a game I will play a lot. |

Entering combat..... auto-attack is ON..... evade.... evade.... evade.... is getting really old. The fact that i'll be able to use terrain and LOS to my advantage (or disadvantage depending) should prove to be pretty sweet. I also like the built in "alien language" (Logos), and how it fits into player ability. The more you know, the more powerful you can be. Definitely a nice touch. I imagine you're right though. No mmo has what it takes to please everyone. But i'm definitely liking what i'm seeing so far.

+2 Internets | We were invited by NCSoft along with a couple other game sites, and I wrote a pretty massive article on it. Curse Visits NCSoft for Tabula Rasa Hands On | Tabula Rasa @ Curse To summarize: the game is awesome. This also marks the opening of our Tabula Rasa portal. We'll have a new gameplay trailer up shortly as well. |
