In fact, since they're both linked to NCSoft, I wonder how much Guild Wars did copy from TR's design. | |

+12 Internets | Letter sent out...soon woot! Future Tabula Rasa Beta testers! I want to thank you for your interest in Tabula Rasa. I am extremely excited about the progress that has occurred over the recent months and I can’t wait for you to get in and test it out yourselves! Tabula Rasa is still in its “Friends & Family” Beta phase, but it will be entering Closed Beta within the next several weeks. Once Closed Beta has begun, alerts will go out to small groups of players from this list. This will occur in waves, so I ask that you please be patient. In the mean time, if you haven’t read about the game’s recent progress, I invite you to check out some of the press here or see the latest gameplay movie from GDC here. Additionally, there is a contest currently running based on the new language that I created for the game called Logos. You can learn more about the language and your chance at having an NPC named after you here. Thanks again for your interest and I hope to contact you very soon! Sincerely, Richard Garriott

| No More "whack-a-mole" "The second idea? To do away with what Garriott calls the "whack-a-mole" combat of the modern MMO. Rather than two characters walking up to each other and taking turns to hit, players in Tabula Rasa are forced to take into account position, cover, and accuracy. Its plays as a third-person shooter, similar to the Xbox 360's Gears of War. Weapons must be aimed and fired, grenades lobbed, and magical abilities super-charged. Firefights are a fizzing science- fiction firework display. Using cover is key. Underneath the light-show, the same MMO dice-rolls and saving throws take place, but they also take into consideration the lay of the land. Pop out and shoot from behind a balustrade and you'll receive stat increases. Charge straight in, and you'll receive scorchmarks." _________________________________________________ Preview: Tabula Rasa - ComputerAndVideoGames.com Last edited by I'm Rich Bitch : 04-17-2007 at 06:51 AM. |

| TR is looking more and more like exactly what I've wanted from a casual mmo for a long time. Early CoH made a pretty good run at it, but they ended up driving that game into the ground, hard. If TR can do the renewable content right (pvp, territory objectives and whatnot) they have a real winner. |

| Thanks for the videolink richbitch, was quite informative, the shown instance missionrun didnt excite me for some reason. The abilities he described sounded cool (something about a shield forming around you out of trash in the area). |

| Garriot mentions something about 'saving' your character. Sounds like something out of a single player game. If I understood it right, you could save a lvl 20 version of your character, keep playing up till lvl 50 or so, then load up your lvl 20 to go slumming with some friends or something. Or you could save your character before making a critical choice, choose one path and see what happens, than load up the old character make the alternate choice and play with those consequences. This all seems reasonable for a single player game, but I just dont understand how it would operate within a persistant multiplayer universe. Would I end up with several different versions of 'Abraham' I could load up at any given time? Would each of these different 'alternate universe' versions of my character have to have a different name? Lastly, I really hope they will be saving these character 'time freezes' to the server, otherwise there will be no hope of preventing hacking. |
