+1 Internets | I dunno. I think Kodylan's assessment of the game will suffice for me at this point. Its obvious that the game had enough appeal to him right from the start, to keep his interest piqued. I wouldn't say that the hype was of the "shit, I gotta work in 3 hours, but just CAN'T log off" magnitude, but it was pretty positive nonetheless. No two players experience a game in the same manner, so I wouldn't really expect everyone to react to it the same way. But honing in on dumb shit like farming boar tusks, and generalizing the game as "WoW with guns", doesn't really carry a lot of weight. It seems like the beta stages are progressing pretty smoothly, so it should be no time before everyone will be able to make thier own judgements.

| Well it should just do it automatically. Also, how can you make a FPS and not have a large emphasis on PvP? Why are all these new games doing "niche" shit and not going for the whole shebang? Why does it seem like the original UO is the most advanced MMORPG in terms of freedom and interactivity (which I feel are what make MMORPGs MMORPGs)? |

Ok 2nd question, I've read through a lot of stuff and either I'm just not getting it or am just missing it, anyways: Do branch choices at earlier tiers effect your branch choices at later tiers?? It seems to me that they do not and just would like to know if that is correct.

Because UO, in today's market wouldn't even qualify as a niche product? Huge barriers to entry (my first action in the game was to get ganked so fast I didn't even realize what happened), incredibly steep learning curve on how to build a non-shit character, massive death penalty, ect. Who the hell wants to worry about that shit anymore?

Ya the full loot on death was a "significant penalty" if you weren't able to afford new gear from the NPC vendors or player vendors, but in comparison to every other MMO gear mattered the least and was BY FAR the easiest to replace. I guess you could say character setup mattered if you cared about PvP, but if you didn't you could basically pick any set of skills and as long as you had a Melee skill + Tactics or Magery, you had all you needed to be effective against monsters. Edit: Yes the PKs were a problem to new players but that could easily have been fixed if UO had had a starting area like most MMOs use today. Of course EA went the other way and made carebearland ![]() Last edited by Campa : 06-07-2007 at 02:38 PM.

| hell the best thing was having a thief character and stealing someones black pearls and then kill them. That was freaking used for almost everything important. Gank that and against alot of people you already win. man heck even butt naked it wasn't too hard to make money if you wanted to be creative - you could just sit there and tailor all day at the shop buying mats from vendors and then sell the crap back for a little profit to get started, or you could have a musician / provoker ( which was awesome ) and make monsters fight each other and loot the bodies, or do stuff like my brother and use various means to trick people into getting killed by the guards ( especially at what was that town called vesper or something where there was a few spots that although were across the water and very far from the actual town instances, one or two tiles were still considered under guard protection, or go around dropping trapped explosion chests in town so when someone tries to open it, it blows up and flags them to be killed by guards and you would then get them killed and steal their crap. of course all of this is based on playing a long ass time ago, but there was plenty of creative solutions to problems especially back when the game first started which is what really made it funny as hell. plus realistically gear and items were incredibly cheap and easy to replace, but it would still piss you off when someone just ganked your bag of components enough to want to hunt them down and kick their ass anyways |

| oh man the week after they did that monster patch or whatever that made monsters much harder ( way way back in the beginning ) overnight orc mages went from being free kills to actually casting energy bolt and shit and you kill those guys and would find alot of loot on them that they had grabbed off random people who didn't realize how much stronger they had gotten. orc lords were good for that too, but mages were better. |
