| What really sucks is that it doesn't appear to automatically cancel you LFG if you join a group. I dunno who's bonehead idea that was. I've been LFG on my priest, joined a group and been halfway thru the dungeon still getting tells, and it doesn't let me access the LFG window in a group to take that crap off. |

| I find it amazing that there are supposedly so many people who play the raid game at Blizzard, and that the default UI is so minimal in comparison to a lot of tools that people would use. Basic raid windows like ctra or grid? Clique ability. A decent LFG tool. Autobar/Flexbar/FuBar/Titan? A better auction house window. Not magical stuff, just stuff some people put together in their own time that blows away a lot of the default UI stuff. Hell the combat log window disappearing bug has been around for THREE MONTHS and isn't fixed until the expansion comes out. I would think someone would have thrown down some ass beatings on the UI department by now...

Or you may call it "non-threatening". It certainly seems to work if you look at the subscriber numbers and especially the number of MMO "first timers". No, its not just the UI that draws them of course. But I'm willing to bet it plays its part in retention. While you and I certainly would welcome more options in the default, I think its a sort of "best of both worlds" to allow for a high degree of customizability to appeal to the more MMO savvy crowd. The LFG looks like the same thing to me. A total MMO newb could probably use it without giving up. I want more options, but I'm guessing we'll see some sweet mods soon that will expand the basic functionality. Of course none of this excuses long-living bugs or changing the motherfucking script language just enough each patch to break my mods.

WoW BlueTracker: LFGQuery() protected function (interactive) It seems like the big, unspoken reason that LFG sucks is that any sort of fully-featured LFG query takes too much of a toll on the database. Lord knows why. Don't forget that they had a simple Flag tool on release, which was quickly taken out... probably for lag reasons.

| One thing is UI tools you use for yourself, another is a tool that has its purpose on everyone's use. Relying on 3rd party tools for a LFG system is a bad idea. And if WoW's servers are too vulnerable to a function that NEVER caused any significant problems before on any other much older mmorpg, then they should at the very least offload it. I also wonder the way it's coded and designed, because there just isn't a reason that can explain why it is causing so many troubles. |
