So, I've got a question regarding USB headsets -- if you have one of these, it negates the presence of a sound card through its own chip, yes? So, then, would any performance boost I'd see through a sound card be achieved with such a headset? My original question here really relates to taking the strain off the CPU, and if a headset will do it then I will just stick with that for a while and put any upgrade money I might have spent on a soundcard into a better pair of USB cans. Any recommendations for this?

Yes, USB headsets have their own "sound card" Not sure about the performance questions, I've never had any issues with it. I originally started to use them because the onboard sound for my old computer sucked and I didn't have room for a sound card, but I still use them even after I upgraded my computer mainly because I have the headset on 95% of the time anyways for Ventrilo. The sound quality is great, a good sound card and some Klipsch speakers would probably blow it away but I'm not much of an audiophile. This is the pair i've been using for about 3 years, Sennheiser is a great brand. Newegg.com - SENNHEISER PC165 Circumaural Headset - Retail

Does your card have a fan on it? If not, get a case with a side fan (generally lined up close to your cpu/vid cars) and a very powerful fan. Mount it there. It tends to help.

+3 Internets | Want to ask about graphics and the expansion as well. A friend of mine played for about 1/2 year after the retail launch. The game ran 'acceptable' for him on his old PC. Without any other upgrades to his PC since then will TBC run the same? Yes, his machine is many many years old. Only reason I'm asking is usually when a new expansion (not just MMOs) is released it's usually requires alittle more resources in cpu, graphics or whatever. It's only natural that way for a game released later even if it's only an expansion. So the people that's been playing the beta, has there been any hit on performance with the same hardware? Mainly lower fps. |

Shat has been pretty bad (the main city) but other than that I've found performance to be surprisingly good, especially considering my same hardware was having vid card overheat issues in the vanilla game for a few weeks before I got my beta invite.
