Yeah. On the bright side, it has been kind of fun watching this topic go round and round.

Pretty sure I've already hit the salient points in the original message that got quoted and my clarifcation later, so I'll just quit adding fodder for now. All the important info is in my previous replies in this thread.

And happy holidays, all of you.

You too, and as someone who threw up a little in their mouth everytime they logged into EQ2 beta/early release.. the new 'Play the Fae' trial is clearly outstanding beyond words. If only the game had launched that way (performance, art, graphics and most importantly fun) back in 2004, the MMO scene may be different than it is today.

Blizzard show its power against World of Warcraft cheaters again. more than 105,000 accounts were closed and over 12 million gold was removed from the game economies in Europe, US and in Korea in the month of November

From Tyren on the official site:

In our continued efforts to combat cheating in World of Warcraft, more than 105,000 accounts were closed and over 12 million gold was removed from the game economies in Europe, Korea, and the US in the month of November. The closed accounts were associated with activities that violate World of Warcraft?s Terms of Use, such as using third-party programs that allow cheating, and farming gold and items. These types of activities can severely impact the economy of a realm and the overall game enjoyment for all players.

We will continue to aggressively monitor all World of Warcraft realms in order to protect the service and its players from the harmful effects of cheating. Please note that selling World of Warcraft content, such as gold, items, and characters, can result in a permanent ban of the involved accounts from World of Warcraft.

Many account closures come as the direct result of tips reported to our GMs in game or emailed to our Hacks Team by legitimate World of Warcraft players. If you suspect that a World of Warcraft player is using an illegal third-party program to farm gold or items, or is otherwise violating our Terms of Use, please report the suspected infraction via one of the means listed above. All reports will be investigated, and those that prove false will not result in corrective action.

As always, thank you for your continued support, and best of luck with your continued adventures in Azeroth!
LOL Characters? Honestly, 105k ACCOUNTS... GG SoE.

China's way more awesome than the US! They arrest more people per day than in the US!

Let's use some logic here. Botters who ruin the game have 6 accounts each, each with a character and maybe 1 or 2 merchant mules on one account.

You can't log in to the same account and play with all 8 of your characters at once. That'd be a waste of time. Botters take the shortest path to their goal, and that doesn't involve filling up their account with 70's to farm.

So the whole 50k characters / 8 per account is retarded. 50k characters translates into maybe 30k accounts at the minimum, still a hefty chunk.

It's good for EQ2, and doesn't affect WoW at all, so keep that shit out of here.

Its a good thing when companies announce their achievements in regards to bannings, etc. Blizz has been rather consistant with their announcements and to date have announced the banning of 235,000 accounts since the games release with several of the early announcements merely stating that bannings had occured with no numbers given.

Its inevitable that there will be comparisons to the 800lb gorilla on the block and the mention of characters rather than accounts makes it appear more like a PR move than a news item. Take the above Blizz account bannings and multiply by 8 and suddenly its 1,880,800 characters banned!!! WOOOO!!! If you consider you can have alts on multiple servers it can get even bigger!!!

It does show they are actively attempting to get rid of cheaters in the game and that is a good thing. It is just presented rather oddly.

thought the eq2 # was given in answer to a question about the botters who - due to the fact they spends hours per day killing low greens for cash/items - show up very high on the eq2 web leader boards on kill/death ratio ratings and so on. these guys obviously make that a bit of a joke if teh characters arnt deleted from the game, and I presume that if an acct is banned the toons werrnt autoomatically deleted just liek if you cancel your toons arnt deleted and still apear on the leader boards. From reading the announcement & the anserws on this and official forums it aint rocket science to see that the 50k characters announcements refer to that not to regular banning farmer sweeps.
