Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of MMORPG's! The first thing you should explore is character creation. Please note that you may create more than one character on your account.

mission accomplished? Misdirection completed.

Even if eq2 had 400k subs, you really think they just banned 1/8th of their subscribers? They banned probably 10-15k accounts (hopefully Scott can confirm real #), probably 5% of their subscriber base.

Way I read it is they didnt ban a whole bunch of new people at all. What they did was purge characters from game that were on banned acounts.

EQ1 said they have never deleted any characters above level 10 from EQ. Even the ones on banned acounts are still there just cant be played because account there on is banned.

In fact if i rember right EQ unbanned all banned accounts a few years ago in a atempt to increase subscribers. My guess is people at EQ2 have decided that that isnt going to ever happen in there game. So they decided to delete characters just to make sure the guys in suits dont ever get idea to try that in EQ2.

I don't think they actually deleted characters, they just cleaned up their eq2players site since it tracks all that kind of data. ie wealthiest player on server X was a gold selling mule or something, they banned those guys and cleaned up the site so legit characters can fill those rankings out. When it was all said and done they totalled it up and were like "holy shit, 50k characters." Good for them, needed to be done, I don't think anyone has a problem with what they did, it was just the person posting here trying to misconstrue the data into something else.

It's the new way companies try to show off how many are playing. Instead of XXX paying customers - we banned XXX characters/accounts or whatever. No way to check on that crap.

Your right, but it sure keeps WoW at the top of the box chart sales banning everyone over and over again. I think SOE just wanted some of that resubscribing love. =P

They didn't ban 50,000 people. They just went around and deleted 50,000 characters that had been banned for exploiting. 10 bucks sayings 75% of those accounts where duping accounts.

I know its characters and not accounts, but I'm surprised no one has chimed in with a "Well there goes 1/3 of their population ROFL!" comment.

When I saw the title of this post, my first thought was smartass bullshit along the lines of "Shit, did they ban trial accounts, too?" I don't think the OP was too far off expecting that sort of response.

I don't think Kaz really has a problem with him posting information that Scott PM'd him. I mean, that's pretty much 90% of what a shill is but meh, it's a popular MMO and we'd have found out anyways.

It's the retarded, "GEE GUYS THIS MEANS EQ2 IS FANTASTERLASTIC. IT'S POSITIVELY SKIPPER-DOO," after comments that make me want to burn the OP's face off with a molten rake.

I totally dig the e-prop's you guys are handing out though. Can I get in on some of this circle jerk action? Looks like Utnayan's the bread. UNF UNF UNF...ahhh.

Anyways...

Carry on.

The OP is smoking too much EQ2 crack to understand what was said. But basically he got it right I think.

Over the last few months they have banned a bunch of accounts for various violations. Now, they went back and are deleting characters that belonged to those accounts. All told, that amounted to almost 50,000 characters. They announced this to show that they are doing what they can to prevent what they consider game damaging players.

Seems ok to me. As long as they aren't trying to claim that they banned 50,000 accounts over the last few months, this seems like a reasonable and informative announcement.
