Pirates Constructable - As presented by SOE

I don't have to pre-face this by saying anything to do with pirates is innately awesome.

Neither do I have to pre-face this by saying anything to do with SOE is tentacle rape.

It's time to slay the dragon! (sea).

Seems it's the digital version of a retail card/board game WizKids came up with. The gist of it, as I'm to understand, is it's pretty much rolling some D6's on some sea board. Also appears you have to buy digital boosters.

There's a free trial but I'm about to go to bed so i'll have to check it out tomorrow. Not sure how long this has been around, just got the news letter today, and as a special gimmick all proceeds from todays sales only are going to child's play.

If any has or will try the trial, report back please. From screenshots, it looks a little simplistic, and seems to only support 1v1, but it's got a kraken!

The good news is that you're still alive. The bad news is that that's the good news. Also, you have no legs.

Digital boosters? It appears that Sony has finally got around to having something to show for their 'free mmo' that they plan to support by making people buy gear.

Well, if it's a digital card game it's a much better implementation of what I thought they were going for. I thought they were planning on actually having a game like Everquest where you bought gear or some shit like that. Not that I would ever touch the thing but this sounds like a pretty cool evolution of the card gaming industry. Hell, if anything the success of this game might mean that there will be one less fewer tables at the mall of people playing Magic or whatever card game and thus I would have to be embarrassed for that many less people.

Well, Blizzard is sort of edging into that area, the whole buy retail boosters for digital items.

They got it backwards and in no way lower my shame quota when I see people playing cards in the mall. As a matter of fact they fucking increased it. "I play Murloc plus two, lmao"

So that's where the Kraken went to after deserting Lake Rathetear.

Man, the only cool thing about the game was the little boats you got to construct when you bought a booster pack IRL. Of course I only played one game of it and it didn't seem like fun...so whatever.

I played it through the first expansion and quit since I couldn't support two card games. It really pissed me off though since no matter what kind of fighting fleet you built it was more efficient to build a treasure hunting fleet and win the game. By making gold the victory objective (which is found on islands that you explore) it really removed combat as a possible strategy.

The game is fun in real life, but shit, the way it's being done online is the exact same way as the the real life version. Buy more cards to get more stuff. Why can't these games just do a monthly fee to play with a normal game to buy to start. Rather than having to spend $40 on some of them, and then $5 to get more boats.

Well, of course playing the game with different rules than what you're supposed to play made the game a lot more fun.

You can Download the game from here and you will be able to try the practice mode with other players without purchasing anything.
