| Time to play the game! | What is SL? Second Life is basically a sandbox and a cespool of freaks. I don't go blantly calling it that because it's just something to do, nope. I call it that on from what I have witnessed with my eyes, a friend who used to play EQ with me mentioned that he came across SL and wanted me to try it out but he and I at the time were into WOW and coming across some burn out. Well, I ended creating an account and upon arrival you start off customizing your avatar which was pretty cool as far as customization goes.. Later I was "Teleported" to where my friend was. It was a "Club" with music playing and lag all over the place. This game is seriously plagued with horrid lag due to the textures it tries to load. Ok well, after exploring and building my own crap and meeting people etc etc.. Here is what I got: The Goreans: Tal, and all that shit. Bunch of egomaniacs treating "Females" (More like some Mangina_01) like trash while holding some pathetic sword that they use for the combat system. The combat system is a joke, you get more fun playing the old 2600 Pitfall. The Pedofurries: Creepy, Annoying and I even found one that claimed to be a scripter who works for Blizzard, go figure. The Clubbers: I'm sorry to say but it's amazingly true, these are your low esteem housewives that doll up their little avatar with their weekly welfare check because hubby gives them no money. They also try to latch on and make you their Cyberlover/Linden supplier. The clubs are run off a bunch of meatheads lagging there and listening to some SAMs DJ housewife playing 80's rock. Griefers: I don't condone any type of griefing in any game. Now with that said, you can pvp with guns and bows, they use a push system for their combat and pushing can get you banned. I shot many of pedofurries and not once did I get banned so who knows how strict they enforce that. They do however have certain "Sims" that cater to pvping but like stated before... this games engines is a festering pile of lag. Builders: These are the ones who just build and avoid any form of contact with the above mentioned. They script, they build cars, houses and anything that can make a profit. The Strippers: I had a long convo once with this woman who had 3 accounts, all of which were "pretty" for a reason, you see SL has this huge audience of perverts who go to a virtual strip club and pay out the wazoo for a virtual table dance. And it can lead on from there which costs even more Lindens/Money. What she was doing is.. She had/has these accounts for the soul purpose of mooching money off the pervs, she was raking in 300 - 500 a WEEK for being a cyberslut. Realtors: This is what I mainly got in, selling cheap ass land I had found and selling it back to people like Anshee Chung for a profit. It's not easy to profit off stuff in this game because there is always someone trying to copy your moves. I tried and played SL for 1 thing and 1 thing only, making a profit to buy a new box, total earnings playing SL for 12 weeks = 6k US. Thank you very much Mr.Linden!

She probably would tank the economy and the princple of of having cash vs capital is one I'm intimately familiar with. But SL has been out what, 2-3 years? 300k a year if she's been playing from the beginning. The idea is just tempting. | |

| Xmas day attacks in Second life I didn't want to make a new thread for this, so I'll drag a month old post up instead. Xmas day attacks in Second life Xmas day attack on Second Life - PC News at GameSpot Another "goo attack," this one featuring green genitalia wearing Santa hats, halts the virtual world. Recently the flourishing virtual economy of online community Second Life produced its first real-life millionaire, estate agent Ailin Graef, and announced it had reached the one million member mark. However, all's not entirely well in the virtual world--a series of "grey goo" attacks from malicious users over the last few months have been invading the system while Linden Lab technicians have battled to fix the problems and restore the world. One attack in November led to a temporary loss of service. This latest attack took place at 9 p.m. PST on December 25, and was entitled "Christmas Present." The worm spammed an obscenity at random Second Lifers, while self-replicating itself as objects that appeared to be green genitalia wearing festive Santa hats. They were making a noise that might have been intended as laughter. According to the blog MMODump.com, "40 minutes into the attack, many regions on the mainland have ground to a halt." Linden Labs made a statement at 9:10 p.m. saying that it was aware of the problem. Jeska Linden then updated the Official Linden Blog at 11:15 p.m. to announce that the problem had been fixed. It read, "I’m pleased to report that the earlier issues are almost completely resolved and those regions which were disabled during the replication attack are being brought back up. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Christmas." |

+4 Internets | In regards to Linden Labs claims of subscribership, this article sums things up rather well. Hopefully the MSM will catch on eventually and move on to misinforming the public about something else. NAMING NAMES: The tech reporters who flack for Second Life - Valleywag |

| My fathers company (not going to mention names here) dumped quite a bit of cash into this game (something like a decent year salary). Not because they expect to make any money of it, but just to get some experience with this sort of thing. Better to spend some pocket change (for a company anyway) on some crappy game now, then to miss out on money when something like SL actually becomes really succesfull, simply because you don't have a clue on how to handle such a virtual world. |

+3 Internets | Fair enough, I know plenty of would-be executives try their hands in management by running a guild nowaday. The online world (and gaming therein) is definitely getting less and less superficial in practice everyday. |

| I wonder why no one has (to my knowledge, at least) attempted to open a dedicated financial institution in Second Life. A "bank," if you will, which lends money at rates slightly better than the game's, and then charges interest. Or perhaps a "venture capital" firm, of sorts, which lends people money to develop in-game ventures, in exchange for some sort of stake in the ventures that emerge. Seeing as how (again, to the best of my knowledge -- correct me if I'm wrong) the world of Second Life is essentially free of any regulatory bodies along the lines of the SEC or FDIC, the door is open for plenty of ostensibly regulation-free financial institutions. |

| Time to play the game! | In Terms of bank's and loans la~ There are some for now and I'm pretty sure more will open up this coming year since companies like Addidas and Telus, Toyota and such are jumping on the SL train, which will cause all the product fans to buy said product due to it's tag/brand. Not sure if this article has been read or not so I'll just paste on here, if it has then my apologies. ![]() Reuters/Second Life » INTERVIEW: Ginko CEO Nicholas Portocarrero If I could give advice to anyone wanting to get into this game to make money I will say this, if you are talented in textures and can learn how to use their tool to create something I will say make and sell avatar hair. I kid you not, it sells like crazy to the females and their avatar's. Not many people get into the hair product and I'll go on a limb and say there is only 3 real competitors in terms of "hair". Make sure you add something as a form of a virtual trademark into your created textures so only you know it was yours because in that game there is a way you can rip textures from the game and re-sell it back into the market, unless ofcourse you add what I stated above. Let me also link a site where most all products are sold and displayed. SL Exchange - Second Life Commerce Got an idea? Got some money to invest? Got artistical talent or business savy? Get an account and get to work! Remember that there is many weirdos just like many other games out there but this one takes it a step further so just ignore most, well ignore those not in it for the $ and more into the weird crap. You have to go in there with your mind focused on making money not making a virtual relationship and all will be well. I hope that helps a little, if any.
